AIBU?

To steal Reddits AMA for MN

For those that don't know AMA is Ask Me Anything.

So every week or so we could have a new AMA. People could nominate themselves for the AMA and start a thread and any interested people could go ask them questions.

They are generally about something that sets you apart from the rest so "I'm a funeral director AMA" "I've been on a TV game show AMA" "I spent 2 years in prison AMA"

It can be anything you think people might be interested in reading about. Always amazed at tge diversity and experiences of people on MN, so thought this could be fun.

Anyone want to nominate themselves?

Nothing interesting you think we might like to read about? Ever climbed Everest? Got the worlds largest collection of thimbles from the Isle Of Wight? World class surgeon saving babies lives in the third world?

I think it's a good idea. I enjoy the AMAs on Reddit.

Unfortunately I'm a boring fucker.

"Hi, I've lived an average life. AMA!!"

I no longer have a good network of friends.

We rarely see Dr's anymore. I found appointments very challenging as did my children. I had to have my disabled teen make their own way home after school when I tool the other to hospital. This caused upset and exasperation of the disability of the non hospital attending child.

Once I had to do the same hospital visit a week later with the second child and the first child suffered.

Same dr, same problem same hospital. They wouldn't give me appointments at the same time. It was a hundred mile journey.

There was a thread in Chat not too long ago when people said what their job was and people asked them about it. I second that it sounds like a great idea.

That is going to take time. I will get back to you on that after I give it though.

I think a AMA would be inviting Trolls in by the bus load, they'd be falling over themselves making up outrageous crap Grin

WorraLiberty · 23/01/2016 11:28

This would work better on a forum where name changing isn't allowed.

I'm a cynical old bag, so I envisage bullshit from some with no posting history Grin

Whoops! X posted with Durham there.

That'll teach me not to pay the milkman mid post Blush

I'm the queen of your imagination and I crap rainbows full of gold..AMA Wink

It's a good idea but not sure it would work on an anonymous forum. Would be interesting to see though

Well YANBU. I love a good AMA but the thing is that reddit has a LOT more users....and many celebs go on Reddit to do AMA's and I suppose MN does do Q&A sessions already with celebs.

But it might be amusing. AMA requests would be fun. And I bet they'd get all passive aggressive here.

"AMA request; women who think it's normal to not offer children dinner on playdates"

and

AMA request "Babysitters who think it's ok to eat four steaks as a snack"

Usually on Reddit OP shows some kind of proof (obviously with personal info redacted).

VertigoNun that's a good one. Lots of people would be interested to hear that!

We had that lovely young fellow who offered his services telling the poor nervous mums how to cope with IT/the Internet... he got a proper roasting. I think it's in Classics.
