AIBU?

A good car parking one .....

There is a car parked outside my house, it's been there 2 weeks, not moved at all. It's a bit "old" shall we say.

It has every right to be there as it's a public road.

But it's right outside my fucking front door.

Should I A. Leave alone & not do anything i.e. Ring the council or B. Ring the council as there could be a dead body in it or C. Pretend it's not there?

There are Xmas presents in it, the door handle is broken & no joke .... Straw hanging out the boot!?!

I have no right to moan as I said it's a public road, but it is right outside my front door. It's been there and genuinely nobody has been there for 2 weeks.

AIBU to ring the council to tell them it's an abandoned car or mind my own sodding business?

Canyon check online to see if it is taxed and insured?

ButterflyUpSoHigh · 22/01/2016 20:35

Check if it is taxed and has MOT. With these valid I don't think they will do anything.

Check if taxed. Might be stolen and abandoned... www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax

Slighly disappointed, I was expecting a good old parking fracas :(

You can report the car online too.

personally I'd report it as a possible abandoned vehicle. The fact there is Christmas presents would concern me

Christmas presents and a broken handle makes me think it may be stolen. Don't know about the straw though! May be worth ringing 101 and reporting a suspected stolen car?

I too find the fact that there's visible presents in a car, that has been sitting for two weeks, a bit concerning. I don't think it would do any harm to report it.

Maybe it was stolen by worzel gummidge.

Sorry. Blush

I reported a car at the top of our cul de sac last week to the council.
It's partly on the pavement and hasn't moved for over 3 weeks, it makes it really hard to pull out onto the main road as you have to go out onto the opposite side and you can't actually see. It's also hard to squeeze past on foot. It was really easy to do it online.
Unfortunately it doesn't fit the councils criteria for and " abandoned vehicle" ( no idea what that is) but it isn't taxed according to the council so they have reported it to the DVLA. It can take "up to 2 months" for the DVLA to take action according to the council but if it's still there in 2 months I can report it again apparently!!!
I have also reported it to the Police on the non emergency number but no idea if they will do anything.

There was a car like this parked outside my house a couple of months back. It really annoyed me. No joke though I opened the door one morning and there was a dead Sheep's head on it, I rang the police and told them how long it had been there for etc My children were quite distressed scarred for life. I would ring DVLA or similar and tell them. I can understand you're frustration.

Here you go ..... thanks for link!

Will report to council in the morning.

It's just annoying, but am I right in saying, no tax or MOT then you can't park it on a public road? (So basically fuck off outside my front door!)

A good car parking one .....

This happened to me too. It's a knackered old clio. I rang 101 and they checked the tax and mot and had a word with the owner. It's around the corner now Grin

I'd have been more worried if it was a live sheep's head...

Will do .....

To be not taxed or MOT since May Last year is a bit odd.

Maybe they are hiding it for a while.

But it's a fair main drive through where I am.

But as I said ..... "It's outside my bastard front door!!!)

It was covered in blood and all sorts - I had to look twice in case it was some kind of theatrical prop or something. I have weird neighbours... Keep us posted OP

Do you have to say your name on 101 calling?

Shall I say I live near it & noticed it's been there for 2 weeks?

I'm not a grass but lugging my Waitrose shop in with that heap of shit in the way is becoming my first world problem!

I need a life Hmm

OP, unless it's been stolen or otherwise used in a crime the police will not help you. I would ring just to double check the number plate with them but they are very unlikely to be of any help whatsoever.

The local/district council are your friends here. That said, be warned that if they are able to contact the owner, you are back to square one and will have to start again with the DVLA pursuing.

Would you be less bothered if it was a shiny new car? Hmm

It's the fact the car is right outside my house, I can hardly get the toddler, me & several bags in the house. Nothing to do with the fact Worzel Gummage has left it there. Even if Tom Hardy had left his Aston Martin there I'd be licking it annoyed!!

I'll ring the council in this situ.

Someone seriously might be missing that bale of straw in the boot

My council has a website where you fill out a form to report an abandoned car. Pretty sure you can be anonymous. I've done it for an untaxed car in a street near my DD's school that had been there for months, and the car was eventually moved. Took a while then they stuck a notice on the windscreen saying it would be towed within 7 days (presumably in the hope that the owners were still keeping an eye on the car and would read it), then about 3 weeks later the car went.

I hope they left the eyes in, it could see you through the week Grin
