By thinking the stag head decor a little bit ugh?

It's very reminiscent of Hunting Lodges, isn't it?

Most people I know are very anti shooting animals for sport, so I guess I thought most of the population would think along the sane lines, don't think my peer group is unrepresentative of the masses.

So the current trend for trophy decor baffles me.

Whole animals, yeah fine, dismembered, not so much.

Anyone else?

Didn't know it was a trend - what next, the return of the elephant's foot umbrella stand?

YANBU. I hate it.

Didn't know that was popular either. My - very elderly - relatives have a few, from gamekeeping and I've never liked it much. Always found it a bit strange having half a deer watching you having your tea. I was always scared as a child that they'd be upset!

We don't have actual stag head on the walls but 95% of our decor features the stag. It's just something that we started when we met and continued when we moved house. The area we live in uses the stag as it's emblem.

It's awfully tacky! I didn't even think about it representing hunting trophies though, it's all the glitter, sparkle and 'decor colour match' rubbish that makes me irk. It's just sad!

It is odd, MIL grandparents home has both deer antlers and whalebone jaw things in the hall. My Aunt had a real leopard skin rug with glass eyes that petrified me as a child.

I have some deer antlers in my house but that's because I found them on a hike in Scotland, so they have some sentimental value for me. I wouldn't have a deer head on my wall though, fake or real.

And I noticed Sainsbury's were selling fake moose heads at xmas. Moose heads?! Why? We don't even have moose in this country. I don't get it.

I have a big Reindeer Christmas one, it's great! It looks as we've sent a hunting party after Santa and mounted Prancers head on our wall Grin

We have some antlers. They're from a stag DH shot. We use them as a coat hook, and the rest of the stag was eaten. Still some in the freezer actually. I think it's a shame to waste anything.

I've also got various shoes made from leather, you know - cow hide.

Are they both ok? Or only one?

My godmother used to live in India in the days of the Raj. She had trophy tiger's heads on her walls. They lived in various different villages that were terrorised by man eating tigers.

I feel very uncomfortable at the thought of all these tigers being killed, but that is what they did in the 1930s.

No problem with the real thing if it is a trophy or heirloom, or the odd festive stag motif.
It's the matchy matchy stag cushions, candle holders, clocks and fake stags head on a plinth I don't understand. Next and Sainsburys particularly seem to have quite a bit of stag related stuff.

can't take it seriously as a form of wall decoration since fawlty towers...

This has been an ongoing thing for a while now, hasn't it?

Surely not long until they're consigned to car boot stalls just like all the Union Jackery that was about a few years back.

nipers , that was a moose

I have some antlers on the wall in the front porch, bought from auction, used as a hatstand...or should that be hat rack?

I can't get vexed about other people's décor really.

YANBU. We've been decorating our littl boy's bedroom in a jungle theme and I'd seen toy heads on Achica or something, and wondered about getting a tiger or elephant or something for him. However, I decided that we're vegetarians and even pretend taxidermy would be setting a bit of a weird precedent. I find it a bit tasteless, tbh.

I only came in so I could quote Gaston from Beauty and the Beast - "I use antlers in all of my decorating!".

I was going to refer to Fawlty Towers!

Basil: "it has a touch of style about it."
Sybil: "it's got a touch of mange about it. Just get it up out of the way, I don't want to snag any more carries on it."

I have a singing Moose head from Sainsburys Blush In my defence I only bought it because dgd (all of 10 months old) got excited when she saw it.It's in the cupboard now though, along with the glittery gold one I bought in a moment of weakness, and will only come out at Christmas, promise Smile

Where would Mabel live if she wasn't on my wall?

(This is her Christmas attire- she isn't usually so 'obvious')
