Just seen one today on a local Wanted board. Someone wants a fairly expensive item and has said "I'm a teacher so would be grateful if I could get this for a low price".

Wtf?

Wtf has being a teacher got to do with it, unless she genuinely believes teachers are somehow more deserving than other folk?

I gave up on freecycle when it became the domain of freeloaders requesting working iPhones, laptops, etc - and all delivered free, of course.

Top of the list for me is the phrase "need gone".

Freecycle is dreadful for these people.

A friend of mine posted something on a local selling site for free. A decent fairly large toy. The very first comment was "do you deliver?".

Wow dizzy "I've spent all my money even though I knew I was pregnant and now I need people to bring me free things because I couldn't be arsed to sort out my own child's needs"

We had someone locally who for a couple of months posted on EVERY local selling page with something like "mi gf pregnant need babz stuff FREE plz comment with pics thnx". Then, when some nice people did comment to say they had bits they could have they were met with "got tht what else u av?"

My favourite is x item brand new with tags bought wrong size/changed mind it's stolen just want back what I paid. 1. not paying more than it is in the shop is not a good deal. 2. I would rather not buy stolen goods pay exactly the same and get a receipt.

I asked for a piano on a free site the other month, got lots of offers and am going to collect one soon. I'm not a teacher though, and we'r struggling but DS needs one to pass his composition section of his exams and, due to the local flooding, the one at college is out of service until it's tuned again.

Presumably I'm a freeloader too?

Orrrr, it could be that people want to get rid of stuff, but cba to actually get rid iyswim?

I'd never expect anyone to deliver it though, that would be cheeky.

I've given up using Freegle/Freecycle cos although people were collecting it was obvs that a lot of them were going to be selling stuff they got for free at car boot sales.

Crowdfunding also gets my goat: I actually saw a woman crowdfunding her own wedding with a list of what she wanted and emphasis on needing to get married because she was pregnant.

I do know for CERTAIN that she wants it for herself/her family, not for school Shazza. So it bugs me because she somehow things being a teacher means she should get it on the cheap.

No one has said that everyone who uses freecycle/free sites is a freeloader, have they?

It's the entitled (and often impolite) demands requests for a specific brand/colour/high-end electricals/delivery, etc., that people are irritated by.

When I have had a big clear out I love putting it all on freecycle for carbooters to collect. I really dont mind who has the stuff as its usually a random selection of books,CDs,toys etc and none of it in great condition. I would never ,ever deliver though.

Items in really good/new condition are donated to a charity shop and I do deliver there :)

I put stuff on free cycle and the like all the time.
I just get pissed off with people asking for white goods etc without giving a reason they can't buy one. Pianos are very hard to get shot off and you were most likely doing someone a favour by taking it of their hands. I don't know about other people here but I don't often have a washing machine or the like doing nothing.

Someone on one of ours put up a scan of a advertisement out of a catalog of a item currently for sale at a furniture store and asked if anyone had one free. Someone posted that they had a similar item they could have. No, they only wanted that one. Someone then said 'you could try actually buying it from the shop' and copped a barrage of abuse.

I have put requests up a few times as a teacher asking for certain things for my class. Once was old fabric scraps, another time was newspapers and catalogs, another was old crockery or tiles (for mosaic), all things that people would generally get rid of anyway. It does get expensive as a teacher having to buy things for your class all of the time to run activities. I'd never ask for something for myself though.

YANBU. Lots of this on my local Freecycle page. "Need a new laptop. Must have Windows 10 and lots of memory. Must be able to deliver." The local Facebook groups are even worse, with lots of people asking for free leather sofas, electronics, and even pets. Some of them are really sniffy too if you offer things and they don't meet their standards. Like they'll post for free baby clothes, but only Next or John Lewis please, or only with tags. Cheeky gits.

Wow - some people are over sensitive! I don't think anyone is suggesting that Freecycke is a bad thing and that people that use it are freeloaders, for goodness sake. It is a great idea but there are a good few people who take the piss. It's great idea, in theory - and in practice some of the time.
