AIBU?

to want to scream "JUST ANSWER THE FUCKING QUESTION?!"?

Tonight "Would you like a yorkshire pudding with dinner?" "I dont mind, whatever". Well do you or dont you?!

Every single time I get this, and eventually I do get an answer one way or the other, so why not just say that in the first place?! And if I say "Look, I am asking.. do you or dont you?!" then there is a definite feeling of unreasonableness that I am pushing for an answer.

I am not asking in depth questions about the political situation in the Middle East, just whether he wasnt a fucking Yorkshire pud. Drives me up the fucking wall!

What happens when you don't give whoever it is the fucking Yorkshire Pudding?

Is this someone you can stop cooking for?

"Well, you never seemed to care about meals when I was cooking, so I thought you could sort yourself out. Do let me know what you want adding to the shopping"

Report
WorraLiberty · 05/01/2016 17:40

I think that is an answer really isn't it?

I take it to mean 'yes, if you're having one'

Or 'yes, if it's no trouble'.

Ooh I'm totally with you on this. What I hate most is when I ask what he'd like for tea and he says 'I don't mind'. So basically I'm offering to prepare and cook it but I don't want to bloody decide what it is! Again!

Personally - any who says 'whatever' to any of my cooking doesn't get any. If they think it is 'whatever' status then they can fucking well coo their own fucking food.

Yes if I offer dh a drink "do you want tea or coffee?"
"I don't mind"
"Well I'm not drinking it so couldn't care less, JUST PICK"

Report
iklboo · 05/01/2016 17:42

Me: Do you want salmon or chicken for tea?
DH: yes please.

It's a bloody OR question. It requires a decision. Listen and stop playing with your bleeding phone!!!!

Oh, yes, dh does this.

"is the front door locked?" - off to bed, last thing at night

"well, it was"

"yes, but is it locked now, or have you been out to the garage and unlocked it again?"

"I don't know, I don't think so"

"ffs" I go and get the keys and then return to lock the door.

"It's locked"

"I told you it was"

"no, no you didn't" Angry

Greater totally agree, but at the moment he is trying to cut down on carbs so will only have one occasionally! Which is why half the time there is one answer and half the time another answer, so WHY NOT JUST FUCKING ANSWER WHEN I ASK!!!....sorry..

Me: Would you like yorkshires with tea?
DH: I don't mind love
Me: That's a no then!
DH: Sad

He occasionally remembers, just in time, and, just sometimes, every now and then, will actually make a decision and answer a question with an actual answer, rather than an evasion or, worse, another bloody question!

MIL does this. I just do the first thing of whatever it is. Eg if I've asked if she'd like tea or coffee and she doesn't mind, she gets tea because that was option 1.

I can't fix her so I just use this technique and it works well for my own sanity!

TendonQueen · 05/01/2016 18:18

When 'what do you want for tea?'is answered with 'I don't mind', I'd say 'Ok, let me know when you've decided on something'. Don't do the brain work!

My dh asks me 'did I clean my teeth today' and again looking in a shop window 'Jesus look at my hair why didn't you tell me to brush it'

He's 52! Daft bastard.

Not as bad as 'sure' which DP picked up when we lived in America. I think 'sure' just sounds like you're doing ME a favour and not appreciating my generous offer.

"Fancy takeaway for tea tonight?"

"Probably"

Wtf?! Yes OR no. Ridiculous man Angry.

I once went on holiday with a friend who I knew to be quite indecisive, but I didn't know the full horror of it till we arrived. She was wholly unable to make any decisions about what she wanted to do or see, and would spend ages on things like deciding which shoes to wear. Ultimately I worked out that I would actually be doing her a favour by making the decision for her, and I decided that if I was taking the decisions then we would always do what I wanted to do (and if necessary she would have to wear the shoes I told her to wear!). Although it meant I was being totally selfish, she seemed to be quite relieved to have the decisions taken out of her hands.

DSis used to do this when we were young. She couldn't decide what she wanted to drink, so I gave her salt water. She became instantaneously more decisive.
