AIBU?

to show no interest in Pokemon?

The next time DS (10) tells me something about Pokemon (which will be within the next 10 minutes) I swear I'm going to scream. I have already completely ignored him, rolled my eyeballs, huffed, even said "I'm really not interested" and he is just not taking the 'hint'.

First it was Thomas the incredibly dull Tank engine, then it was Angry Birds who filled me with anger, then Bakugan, and now Pokemon. He becomes fixated and drives me mad with a constant stream of trivia. And I just can't fake an interest. He tries to force interest out of me by asking me what Pokemon would I prefer to battle in such and such conditions.

Does anyone else have this problem? I seriously don't think I can take much more.

I do my bit by buying him Pokemon stuff, I even made the effort to find an online Pokemon quiz the other day to test his knowledge. I just can't take the constant Pokemon chat when I'm trying to live my everyday life.

What do you do if Pikachu won't get on the bus?

Pokémon.

I'm torn between telling DS that joke but afraid it will encourage another 10 mins of Pokemon chat.

My dd was a huge Pokemon fan for many years at that age. But thankfully not much of a chatterer. I think kids who fixate on stuff like that have a tremendous ability to absorb information about it! There was nothing she didn't know and she'd bury herself in the pokedex for hours.

No advice, sorry, but sympathy!

PS4 is next, prepare yourself for endless conversations about how old you have to be to play this game or that game and shouting at their friends over headphones and on facechat even though they only live round the corner.

I'm currently getting my head nipped about monster high by a 5 year old. I was really hoping this was a phase that would pass, have I got 5 more years to look forward to?

I feel your pain OP. Mine went through that. You just need to remember the name of one and use it as the answer to all questions. :o

My 4 DC are in their early 20 and grew up with Pokemon. I can still name an awful lot of the first batch and we still play Pokemon video games such as Pokemon Snap and Pokemon Stadium on the N64. (I never played Pokemon stadium but Pokemon snap is surprisingly playable). I hate to think how much we have spent on the cards and the DS games. Shock

I am still gloating over the fact I avoided having to take them to see the Pokemon movies when they were first released. I think there were three of them and I managed to persuade DH and the kids that it was 'their' thing.

Once every few years when we are very bored we try to name all the first and second (?) generation.

I don't think I'm reassuring you OP am I ?

Minecraft might be cheap, but we have it on PC and middle L is all 'What Mods can we download now?' And endless Stampy Cat!!! He never got into Pokémon, although he got a DS for Christmas and his cousins old game so who knows!
I would quite like an end to the skylanders obsession, these things have taken over the house. He has decided he is a collector so went to CEX with his pocket money and bought ALL the old games so he has them from the beginning!

My middlespawn is very into Pokemon. I just answer "GoffGoff" to any question he chucks at me. He huffs and flounces off. It's as much of a ceasefire as we're going to get I think:o

I find minecraft easier to talk about, and there are three of them who can burble on for hours about it so my input isn't needed too often.

9yr old dd obsessed with pokemon....there is about a hundred soft toys in the cupboard/on her bed and a giant bulbasaur soft toy on the floor ( a student gave it to her at a car boot sale as he bet her she couldnt name more Pokémon then him....she sooo could :-)

The twins asked for more pokemon soft toys for Christmas. Then there's the cards the figures the plastic diamond floppy things the Pokémon ball that they throw and a tiny soft pokemon fly's out.... I know the pokemon a to z song....

I have mentioned to dd that just like ash's mum at 10 I will pack her a bag and send her off into the world with her pokemon, and that's it she's on her own....

Still when the phase is finally over she could make alot of money selling everything. But sadly I have visions of a uni hall room covered in pokon memorabilia... She has already noticed the boys at school think she's cool for knowing so much.....

My default phrase when the boys are rambling about Mincraft and Terraria is 'Cool' or 'Thats Awesome'. I have no idea what they have said but it works Grin

My mid-teens sometimes go back to Pokemon. They looked at me really pityingly when I said something as if Pikachu was an individual, not a breed.

There are however OP, horrors ahead.
