Do not think smearing a soiled nappy on a car is a good idea, or mixing cat poo with milk and pouring it into airvents to get rid of problem parkers, etc etc. It's all gone a bit bizarre round here, and I used to read mn for sane, diverse, funny, wise intelligent opinion. Now my eyes bulge at the majority of posts / advice - people are aggressive and humourless far more often than wise, funny or kind. I'm hoping responses to this thread won't attract too many of those...

Has penis beaker ruined it for us long term posters?

If anyone can direct me to where all the old posters have gone I'd love to know Grin

Meh. It also gets a bit dull to read these type of threads because 'back in the good Ol' mumsnet days' comments also been happening for years.

Is that it, here or netmums?! I'm thinking there is a gap in the market...!

I have definitely definitely noticed a shift since I started here 7 years ago

I just don't read those threads. Half the time I get half way through the OP and move on to another thread. I don't know anyone in RL who would think putting a soiled nappy on someone's windscreen is appropriate behaviour to a parking issue nor would I want to. Just hide the threads, that what I do.

If I were to have a wishlist of what a forum would be like, it would be a fast moving, high traffic site like ours. Just without the endless supply of unkind remarks and bizarre posts. No name changing and a verbal reasoning test to join Wink

Rose, I'd be hiding about 90 per cent of aibu I really would

Seven years ago it would have all been new and different

Now it's the same old same old

You have just become a little bored that's all. There are more members and I think more posts so more of the good and bad

Really? Go and Google some chat forums if you genuinely care instead of starting a goady I've been here for years type thread

I used to find lots of threads hilarious and informative.... Now, a good one without aggressive, humourless gfs possibly with hairy hands feels like a bygone time, and I miss it

I do ha ha. Then I move over to chat. If all else fails I go to classics and read waste hours in there.

Drop proving the point there...

Enthusiasm, I'm really not sure if that is it - it's true I've now leant everything I need to know about how a lot of people feel about to school gate, but I'm ready and waiting to be enjoy threads but they are often so horrible

I don't find this thread goady.

And there is a difference between witty and gross.

Fortunately, most threads are just fine (whether or not they interest me).

I think it's OK to chew over in a thread such as this one what posting standards should be. It probably won't make any difference overall.

But yes, if MN becomes colonised with people who think it's OK to smear shit on property, I'd be out. I read the OP of that thread, hoped fervently it's a spoof, and hid it.

I've been here about 4 years.

Over that time I've started to comment on threads then thought 'oh fuck it, I can't be arsed here' then deleted., that happens more and more.

I've been off work , off my feet and on here most days in the last two weeks, maybe I've got MN fatigue.

Where d'you get that from Drop?

We do have regular "mn isn't what it used to be" threads. Chat forums change and evolve, I just avoid the poo threads. The hide button is very useful!

Queenbean · 29/12/2015 12:13

Oh, and I think the difference between what people say they would do on a chat forum and what they would actually do in real life is vast

If someone regularly parked across the exit from my parking space, despite being asked - and then didn't move their car when I needed to take a sick child to A&E, I would be pretty fucking annoyed, and would definitely be considering some form of retribution!

Thanks stella - it's not supposed to be goady at all Smile

Thinking about standards and what people are writing and agreeing with is a good discussion to have- it seemed to me that quite a few people were cheering the soiled nappy situation, which totally dismayed me.

We're just back from a holiday with friends. The first night we heard the DW say "oh for god sake put pants on man, you'll get pooh crumbs on the bed otherwise." DH and I lay creased up laughing as I'd read a thread to him a few weeks ago about pooh crumbs and toilet brushes from here. It turned we were both Mn's and both our eyes have been opened to penis beakers, pooh crumbs, changing babies on tables, toilet brushes etc.

Seriously there must be a "MN ain't what it used to be" post every day for the last x years
