AIBU?

to think the name of Prince George's nursery shouldn't have been disclosed?

An article in the news today says that Prince George will be starting nursery in January and gives the name and location of the nursery.

Now I know everybody knew where Prince William and Harry went to school/uni but we are living in different times. This is a massive security risk isn't it? Surely the security at the nursery won't be as high as at their home on a private estate?

I'm really quite surprised that this information has been published.

They will probably make sure there is good security there now.

I agree

I think it makes it less of a risk actually. Now every other parent, everyone in the village, the world's press etc will be watching the place.

There's a risk that by keeping it secret you make the information valuable, which makes people vulnerable to bribery etc.

Tbh i dont know why the princes schools were disclosed either and i thought the younger royals wanted a more private life so god knows why this has been announced either however the risk is no higher now than when his dad went to nursery

It'll be obvious that he's going there when he starts going there.

His whereabouts are not a state secret. And the security which surrounds him is arranged accordingly.

I should imagine it is much easier to spot an outsider who might mean harm in rural Norfolk than in London.

It would have got out anyway. And it just means other "potential" nurseries will not be hounded as much.
It's better to make it public knowledge than to make it a secret to be found out. Just compare the intrusion made to certain celebrities "secret weddings" compared to the restraint when others have given the press limited access.

I'm quite sure the security teams in charge of his protection will have weighed up the pros and cons before releasing the information. (DH has experience in a related area. The amount of planning they do has to be seen to be believed and nothing is left to chance)

Pretty hard to keep secret. Security will be tighter than a drum, tighter than a duck's bum, tighter than an otter's pocket.

The security at a certain after school club both Harry and William attended as schoolboys certainly wasn't that great. It was 2 of their 'policemen' both armed. With a chauffeur. That was it. But it was 1991/92. May have moved on a bit now!

Fair point about if its not a secret then its safer . I just dont understand why we need to know which nursery a littleprince goes too

I was surprised too, but then what someone up-thread said about valuable info makes sense.

If I was a potential parent at that nursery, I'd value this information a lot and find a different place straight away, who'd want to run the risk of appearing in the Daily Mail every time they do a school run?

It would become obvious quickly anyway.

The information would have come out pretty much instantly the day he started. Far better to take control of the information by announcing it.

It would soon be common knowledge. Other parents will talk. It would be over Twitter and fb even if they tried to keep it a secret.

You cant keep anything quiet nowadays, what with Twitter and Facebook so it would have instantly come out anyway.

Did Charles go to Hill House (in the news a lot recently due to failing OFSTED) and Wills and Harry both to Ludgrove then Eton?

BlueSmarties76 · 18/12/2015 11:12

Oh, and I'm split 50/50 on if it should be disclosed for all the reasons above.

Ha ha, yes. Imagine if he goes through a biting stage! Grin

In 50 years time people would be able to say they were bitten by the King of England.

Must admit if I was local Id be looking for another nursery I think. Though hopefully the paparazzi will keep away?? They left Will alone when he was at uni. But I'd be worried about security, it being a terrorist target, etc.

Yes, prince Charles went to Hill House then Gordonstone.

Prince William went to nursery and pre-prep in London before going to Ludgrove then Eton.

I expect Prince George will be heading for Eton unless he's wildly unsuitable for the school. (The security staff can live at Windsor Castle, so much easier than covering any other school).

Imagine the parents flogging royal wellies or PE shorts that accidentally came home in the wrong bag on eBay. "George Wales" lovingly sharpied on and later, as hand-me downs with "George Lottie Wales".

Ha yes imagine a parent saying George is being mean to little tom and toms mum gossiping in the cloakroom to other parents Grin

This isn't a new thing though is it? There were loads of shots of Harry and Will going to and from school etc. when they were little as I recall. I supposed the problem now is the "instant" nature of it all rather then photos being taken and returned to base etc. so there was a delay in printing. Besides which with or without the disclosure there would still be the same amount of protection and security covering the prince. The school itself will already have been vetted from top to bottom and protection coverage laid on. Thinking about it, prob easier for them now since if anything changed for the school they would see it a suspicious rather than coincidental.

Wonder how the coverage works for other parents though? Cant be easy wondering if you should invite a prince to little chardonnay's party. I mean what do you serve a prince? Does it have to be Royal Jelly? ;)
