It's that British first stuff where it's been rumoured that the Muslims are protesting over merry Christmas.

In reality like you said, no one flipping cares

In my parents home town, "Happy Christmas" banners that used to be on the High Street, have been replaced with "Happy Holidays" lest anyone not Christian be offended. However, at Divali, "Happy Divali" banners are allowed. It's the actions of the stupid council, as the non Christians there that my parents know couldn't care less. If anything, this is causing a problem that wasn't there before, iyswim

Yes, delete them. Same sort of people who say "I am not a racist, but..." and but is always followed by a racist statement.

YANBU
It has got on my nerves the number of times I have seen that shared on facebook and the number of times I have told people it is ridiculous.
Some people are morons.
They don't check anything and believe everything that is fed to them.

An equally valid choice, that church of Santa, MrsJayy.

This 'Christmas has been replaced with Winterval to placate the censorious, fun-hating Muslims/Hindus/Sikhs/Whoever!' comes up annually, like the flu.

Where is the rumour that a nativity scene is offensive being propagated?

I do sometimes chortle at visions of the nativity with a blue eyed blonde baby in a crib, but I still don't find it offensive.

My brother works for a large corporation, as do quite a few friends as it's a big employer in my area.

They are not allowed to put up decorations or say Merry Christmas etc so as not to offend other religions.

So it does happen. Although, the ones they really pissed off with their attitude were the very same people they were trying not to offend in the first place!

Bonkers!

In our PTA the suggestion of Winter Fair came from white, middle class mums of not overtly religious Christian background. No hysteria or insults about it though. Muslim mums on the PTA were quite happy for it to be called Christmas Fair.

I wonder how many of the "we cannot not share the photos" people realise that Jesus is a prophet in Islam and his birth story is mentioned in the Qu'ran (not the same details as the Bible).

Oooh! I shared one of those a couple of days ago.

My caption/comment was "Sad how some people have to peddle such crap. They must have sad lives"

It wasn't until about an hour later that my DSis rang, giggling, well pissing herself laughing is more accurate.

Turns out that the person who had put it on my fb in the first place was... our dad Shock

Still, it just reinforced our decision to be fairly low contact these days Smile

My friend is a Hindu, she puts up a Christmas tree for Diwali and keeps it until Christmas (probably causing a fair few "I have seen a Christmas tree and it is November" threads)

Ah so its the Hindus fault for those threads.

Yeah, but they nicked him from the bible (which was written yonks earlier than the Qu'ran) but decided he wasn't reet important. Not sure what your point is.

Only someone really daft would think Jesus was a blonde, blue-eyed Caucasian.

I lived in Kuala Lumpur and they made more of a fuss about Christmas than we do here - the shopping malls were fantastic! Shop assistants, colleagues and friends all wished us merry Christmas no matter what their religion (or lack of)

No one gets offended at being wished a Merry Christmas any more than I would be upset at being wished a Happy Hanukah or Eid surely!

Nefertitis
Ny point is that Muslims are unlikely to be offended by Jesus's birth given its part of their religion. I am Christian but DH and the DC are Muslim. The DC send Christmas cards to their school friends and decorate their classroom even though a significant proportion of the school are not Christian.

I wonder who is deciding that these other groups are going to be offended.

Now that would make a brilliant if a little hysterical save-our-Christmas traditions thread, MrsJayy Grin.

Happy Holidays is an American phrase. It does seem to be used a lot there.

At my old workplace, one member of staff questioned us putting up xmas decorations in case we offended Muslim colleagues, until it was pointed out that some of our devout Musoim colleagues had put up lots of decorations around and on their desks.
