AIBU?

To think this mother had a hell of a cheek re school parking

Our local school is beside our local church and they share a large car park located between the two buildings. Today my mum, who does flower arranging for the church, asked me if I'd drop in some vases and leave them beside the altar, because she doesn't drive and they were too heavy for her to carry up herself later.

So I drove up with the vases and parked in the shared car park, which was very full as school was just finishing and children were being collected. When I came back out of the church, a woman driving around looking for a space rolled down her window and berated me for taking up a parking space. I pointed out the car park was shared and she said words to the effect that, regardless of that, it was still incredibly selfish to park there at school leaving time when I 'knew parents would need it'.

AIBU to think she was a cheeky cow?

Of course she was a cheeky cow.

You need to just forget about it though.

Daisysbear · 27/11/2015 16:15

I know. Deep breaths!

Yes...cheeky cow. Don't worry about her.

DeirdreDoo · 27/11/2015 16:45

Yes deep breaths and Brew

I thought this might be about the woman from our school who parks in the middle of the car park every day, (not in a space, but in front of other cars, sideways) in her horrible beaten up old 4x4, right in the way of everyone so other cars have to slow right down and squeeze past because there is barely any room.

She is a proper cheeky fucker and she knows it. If anyone said anything though, she looks like she would probably hit them, so no one does.

Other people at least try and park a little bit closer to the side so access is possible but she doesn't seem to understand about that.

sigh

Viviennemary · 27/11/2015 16:48

It was a shared car park and you were entitled to use it as much as she was.

I'm a stirrer so I'd probably be contacting the school asking them to remind parents that it's a shared car park. Grin

Deirdre that sound like my SIL...

HunterHearstHelmsley · 27/11/2015 16:57

I live by a school and came home early one day, parked in my usual 'spot'.. Was getting a few bits and bobs from the boot and a woman winds her window down to tell me to move as she parks there!

strawberryandaflake · 27/11/2015 17:02

David Beckham took my parking space at work once. Had to park on the road. I didn't say anything, I was scared of his bodyguards! Confused

fuzzywuzzy · 27/11/2015 17:03

Spellcaster · 27/11/2015 17:05

Waiting for hunters reply.

jaybeeyellow · 27/11/2015 18:02

Do you live in a town located between Liverpool and Warrington? This sounds very similar to th school my children used to go to.

wasonthelist · 27/11/2015 18:05

Good grief, surely McColonel was joking?

HunterHearstHelmsley · 27/11/2015 18:09

Sorry, on my way home from work!

I just laughed in her face... One of those awkward haha you're joking... oh no... you're not joking laughs! I think she thought I'd shift my car... Bearing in mind I once popped home because I'd forgotten something only to find someone ON my drive. I blocked that one in and buggered off out.

GruntledOne · 27/11/2015 18:16

Silly woman. How did she know you weren't a parent who had popped into church for a bit of spiritual succour before picking up your DC?

I do agree with asking the head to remind parents that the car park isn't for the school's sole use and that if they're rude to other car park users they'll be banned from parking there altogether.

ShebaShimmyShake · 27/11/2015 18:17

I hope you put the stuff in the car, locked it and went away to have a nice coffee somewhere...

AdoraBell · 27/11/2015 18:22

Hunter please tell me you buggered off out to go shopping, met up with friends, had a couple of drinks, went for dinner, then decided to take in a showGrin

OP yes, bloody cheeky mare, but don't let her ruin your evening, t'is Friday Wine Grin

CrohnicallyAspie · 27/11/2015 18:23

YANBU to think she was a cheeky cow.

However I do admit to thinking similar, namely that those who have a choice when to use a service would be considerate to avoid peak times.
