"Ginger boys are just ugly"

Just wanted to rant Angry

Had 32wk consultant appointment today, sat in tiny waiting room with about 15 other people all crammed in and there's two women sat opposite DP and I chatting to each other, conversation goes something like "have you ever thought that your baby could be ginger" "oh god no don't say that, I wouldn't mind so much if it was a girl but ginger boys are just ugly, yuk"

DP was sat next to me and could hear the whole thing, he is ginger and so is our 14 month old DS. How rude can you get?!
DP wears a cap constantly when he's out because he got teased in school about it.

What difference does it make what colour hair you have? It's just a colour the same as brown, blonde, black are colours! Thinking about it now it's really making my blood boil and if I could turn back time I wish I'd have said something to them instead of staying quiet because I didn't want to cause an argument.
Idiots Sad

Shock

Rude and ignorant. And wrong Grin
Red hair in all its incarnations is gorgeous.

Idiots indeed.

People are twats unfortunately.

Fwiw around half my family has red/ginger hair and no one has ever been teased about it. I don't think it is 'a thing' for kids these days like it used to be.

YANBU. Pathetic people. (I love ginger men)

Well they are clearly thick as champ because i have met some of the most adorable little boys who have variations of ginger and red hair. Really beautiful children. And i've had some gorgeous ginger boyfriends too. Ignore them. Theyre stupid idiots.

You did the right thing by not getting into a possibly heated debate with a couple of stupid arses.

Ignore them. You know they wer e talking like twats

Jeez, YANBU, that's flipping horrible, if they'd replaced "ginger" with "black", they wouldn't have dared to say that.
I'm the same, I always wish retrospectively that I'd spoken up but keep quiet at the time. I hope your DP wasn't too upset by the conversation.

not that I'm biased being ginger myself or anything

They sound like a pair of twats

But realistically what could you have said to them though?

There are plenty of people (normally not on Mumsnet though) who despise ginger hair, so you were best off just rolling your eyes and filing them under W for Wankers.

Auburn is one thing, white skin and carrot is not good, sorry!

I have a 14 month old ginger DS too OP

I am also ginger. I think ginger-bashing is the sign of a very insecure person.

My husband is also ginger, as is my 14 year old Ds and I can confirm that neither are mingers! (I also have an 8 year old ginger dd but as girls are apparently immune to the ugly ginger fate then I'll leave her out of it...). Red hair is gorgeous and their hair gets commented on in a positive way so much more often than mine (brown) and my other 2 dd's (blonde) so it seems most people are much less twattish than those people you heard today.

My Ds has never been bullied about his hair colour either so it's definitely not as much of a "thing" as it used to be.

Insulting when for some reason people imply there is something wrong with being ginger...I've been told "Don't worry he's not ginger he's strawberry blonde."

Erm...I'm not worried and he IS ginger and I don't need you to tell me that he's ok. Dicks.

Ginger has at times become an acceptable form of mockery. I was worried for my DD when she was younger, I didn't want her to hear any putdowns. A very good friend was always trying to be misguidedly supportive, e.g. her hair is a lovely colour, it's like aa much lighter shade of ginger !?!
I absolutely know the blood boiling feeling, fwiw you want to see her amazing head of hair now. She is absolutely full of confidence and whenever photographers from papers came in to school it's her image everywhere.
As for boys, as a teen I always loved ginger boys. Can't understand their ridiculous comments. My daughter has been avidly waiting (lol) for my little boy's hair to go a little bit more reddish.
In our house we champion gingers all the way as they are clearly better than everybody else!!!!!
Tell dp to ditch the cap and embrace his fab hair, we did and have never looked back. My DD taught me!
BTW you've just got to adore Ed sheeran

Well, you can dye ginger hair, if you have it and hate it, or cover it up like your DP, but it takes a lot more work to stop being an insensitive gobshite like these women.

The gingerbeard man is asleep on the sofa next to me, right now. I clearly don't have a problem with it.

Eddie Redmayne. That is all.

Those dissing 'carrot ginger' - you do know babies can't choose their hair colour, any more than they can their skin colour or anything else? So why do you think it's fine to say it's awful?
