AIBU?

To think that a labracockapoodle is a mongrel

So why can't folk just say so. Or would that be to justify the extortionate amount they paid for it so they don't come across as mugs. Wink

Yanbu. A dog is a dog.

YANBU, it's a crossbreed or a Heinz dog to me.

Oh here we go again.

Yes, they are mongrels. So bloody what. Don't want one, then don't buy one.

I don't need to justify what I paid for mine, and I am certainly not a mug. Any more than my friend is a mug for paying £600 for her Labrador. Why am I am mug and she's not?

Actually if people ask me what he is, I say that his mum was a lab and his dad was a poodle, so they can take from that whatever they like.

Yanbu. I hate dog breeders.

I paid $3500 for my dog. At that price, I'll call it whatever I like.

but they are so lovely.
I would love a cockapoo but my old Heinz 57 might get a bit jealous Sad

Well there is nothing wrong with the word mongrel but it never gets used anymore. And I am actually tempted to get one and call it just that to see the reaction I get from people

I also drive a car. Never felt the need to describe it by its make and model

Yup. A mongrel with a very hefty price tag. And possibly several genetic weaknesses.

"I am actually tempted to get one and call it just that to see the reaction I get from people"

Yeah, coz that's a really good reason to get a dog.

For the record, I understood that a mongrel was 3 or more "breeds" or unknown parentage. Cockapoos/labradoodles et al are cross-breeds, surely? A cross of two known breeds.

What do you mean? You want to see the reaction you'd get from other mongrel owners? I'm pretty sure they wouldn't bat an eyelid. The only think I care about when I see dogs is that they are healthy, happy and well looked after, their name is irrelevant.

"And possibly several genetic weaknesses."

Unlike "pedigree" French bulldogs/Pugs, of course. Which cost even more.

WTF is a labracockapoodle? I've heard of a labradoodle. Which I thought was a mix of a lab and a poodle..

voluptuagoodshag · 08/10/2015 23:33

Clam, indeed I believe that is correct. Nobody uses the term cross breed either

Labracockapoodle - That must be a cocker spaniel/ Poodle/ Labrador cross !!

Self-satisfied dog owners, whatever the price tag, that insinuate they are more caring than others as they are looking after and controlling their beautiful pets whether bred for human satisfaction or not irritatate the hell out of me. BTW I love dogs, can't stand owners that believe because they own a dog that actually means they love them too!

I have a Cocapoo. Yes I paid a lot for her. She is worth every penny. We bought her mainly because she is non shedding and my dh has bad asthma.

Ok I know my op was a bit inflammatory but my point is that 3 generations ago, when I were but a lass, the big costs were reserved for pure breeds. A cross breed was usually obtained for nothing.
It's the great marketing swindle. And again fwiw I think paying huge amounts for a dog seems incredible when there are so many lovely ones available free but they aren't wanted, for some reason

I've never even heard of them. Want one now, just for the name alone!

Is she a trophy dog then? Main reasons stated not seeming to be particularly relevant to welfare
