AIBU?

Boring bloggers spamming up the world

I'm so fed up with the vast quantity of naval gazers who spam their tedious blogs all over the place. They appear here on Mumsnet, in the comments on various discussion boards, on unrelated Facebook groups and pages and local newsletters. There seems to be no escape from them.

Is it just me who's fed up with seeing these things? Posting your boring blog on your own Facebook is fair enough because I can hide that and your self-absorbed musings but spamming it all over the place? Just fuck off. And when asked to take it down do it with good grace, not some pathetic rant about how it's artistic expression or a valuable public service.

There are some fantastic bloggers out there but I never, ever see them spamming up some unrelated thread or conversation. Which is as it should be.

AIBU? Of course I'm not!

I avoid them/ignore them/don't notice them.

I absolutely agree.

I girl I was at school with has a very successful "mum" blog. She has gone on TV, gets sent on holidays etc, and for the life of me I can't work out why. It's just dull meaningless trivial shit about what she had for lunch and what mascara she's using.

I do have one friend who does triathlon for Great Britain and her blog is fantastic however, really well written. She does not just write about her racing, but how it impacts on her life, things she's read, philosophy etc.

I used to ignore them but when some bore posts their boring blog on the local "What's On" FB group it pings to my inbox, feed, notifications etc etc which makes them very hard to ignore and I need to know what's happening locally for my sanity.

It's the online equivalent of walking into the local pub and interrupting conversations to over-share about the minutiae of one's life.

Yup, I agree. I reported one from here yesterday who has posted 4 times, each time something along the lines of - gosh, I love this jacket/mascara/recipe for carrot cake - and then a link to (surprise, surprise) what turns out to be her boring blog!

Can you imagine just how insufferable they probably are in real life?

Interesting people write interesting blogs. Even some fairly dull people with an interesting interest can write a good blog.

But fucking carrot cake or mascara? No. No. No. Dullards.

I agree

Apart from the fantastic bloggers bit.

I just see them all as wannabe writers, who somehow missed their opportunity in life.

I just wish they'd bore off.

Having been a professional writer for ten years, 95% of mummy bloggers make me want to scream into a pillow.

See I love a so-bad-it's-good blog. Just not shoved in my face in unexpected and wrong places.

But some make me what to chew my own fist off.

Ooh it's been a while since we had a good hating on bloggers thread. Hmm

For what it's worth, I'm a blogger, and I blog about being a parent, so I guess I'm a 'mummy blogger'. I've been on radio and TV as a result of keeping the blog, but that's because I'm not just using it to post about what I had for lunch; it's intended to support other young parents and challenge the public perception. It's not all carrot cake and 'look at the glittery shit I made with my children'.

I agree with you in that I don't understand why people share their blogs on free and for sale sites etc. I use my personal Facebook page as my friends and family all read it, my blog's Facebook page and a small group of blogger-only networking sites. That's plenty, there's no need to use other public groups, it just pisses people off.

This is not a hating bloggers thread. This is hating bloggers who spam thread.

Sorry Moving, that wasn't aimed at you as I know the OP was very much aimed at spamming bloggers. Some people use any thread about bloggers as a chance to tar us all as self-obsessed, lunch-sharing eejits, unfortunately.

I think interactive forums like this one, support parents far more than one person setting themselves up as a blogger ever could.

Otherwise it's just one person's life/experience/opinions/thoughts, and that can't be anywhere near as helpful as a whole forum full of experience imo.

If you can't avoid them your online settings are all arseways. There is no need to see this drivel at all unless you choose to, so yabu.

Worra Perhaps, but I've had people tell me my blog has helped them so hey, I'll keep it going if that's alright with you? Hmm

WorraLiberty · 06/10/2015 13:52

No it's not.

You must STOP immediately...

Okay I'll go press the delete button :(

But how will the world know my recipe for taramasalata paninis? Tarquin loved them? :(

You have blogs on all sort of subjects though. I follow one of them who gives regular tips re websites and I found it extremely helpful (because I have a website. If I didn't I would find it boring)

So YY to spammers. It's the same than spam emails, The type you can't even unsubscribe from. Annoying to say the least.

Spam or no spam, I hate the lot of 'em.

And as for the "Guest Posts". Aaaggh! This week's, for example, is about plastic bags. And we are invited to line our pedal bins with a pillow case. Now that is really saving the planet when you have to then wash that pillow case at 90 degrees to get the stinky old food off it. Imagine if it were fish or the remains of a takeaway!

Anyway, I have so had it with people thinking they've got something to say and are going to make sure everyone hears . Keep a diary, folks. A locked one.

I'm not a blogger but I do run a very successful beauty group. You're not interested in joining? PM me if you are WinkGrin

Now I would definitely read a blog about a taramasalata penis Grin

Worra if you dislike parenting blogs I wouldn't recommend it - it may not have 'here's what I ate for lunch today' but it is still a blog. About parenting. Grin

Someone was spamming the slimming world threads earlier in the week. I may have had a small seethe inside. It's hard enough being on a fucking diet without spammers making me even more irrationally unstable!:o
