For a few weeks I have wondered if I have BV (again) as it does not smell good when we have sex. I haven't made time to go to the GP, OH works away.

Have been accusing OH of eating bad food which is making his sperm smell bad Blush

Today we were DTD and I kept getting wafts of this awful awful smell. He said he felt something weird - I felt something weird and ran to the loo and was worried I was pulling out some type of weird prolapse (not medically trained!).

To my horror it was a forgotten about tampon which as I have a Mirena and no periods I cannot remember for the life of me inserting BlushBlushBlush - we are talking months Blush

I have Googled and think I am lucky not to have dropped dead from TSS (been feeling dizzy for 3 months!).

Apart from feeling totally mortified should I go to the GP and share this mortifying info or as I haven't dropped dead am I probably ok?

Has this happened to others? Blush

I could never get a tampon in comfy enough to forget it.

How about a nice bath and monitor the situation. Luckily you didn't get TSS.

I had a really really long shower and a VERY good wash as soon as it happened.

I know joking aside I was lucky xx

It happens; I used to work in gynae and occasionally had to remove them for people after the string broke or was pushed up too high. If there's a bad smell or discharge there may be infection there so definitely see your GP for swabs and/or antibiotics. Don't be embarrassed, they'll have seen worse Smile

I once left a tampon in but only for a few days by accident. I was in Australia being orally pleasured and my boyfriend almost hurled chunks at the pong. All was well after a shower.

The smell was just disgusting.

Mortified - luckily we've been together 6 years and he is concerned rather than revolted. Blush

Oh goodness I've been around on MN for too long. There was a poster (dreadful typist) called Cod whose doctor had to pull out an ancient tampon. I'm pretty sure she repeated the story multiple times on various threads!

About 3 weeks for me. The stench was just unbelievable! I had to wash the sofa covers Blush.

I think if you don't feel unwell then don't tell the doc!

Hope you are ok.
I thought this happening was some kind of urban myth...

Still pop in and double check. Just because you don't have TSS doesn't mean there couldn't be another infection especially if you don't know how long it was in there for. Always better to be safe than sorry

Hi NC for this! Yes this did happen to me but I'm not sure how long is was in for but I'm thinking a couple of months.

I wasn't on my period but out of the blue I felt something coming out of me and I 'birthed' (Sorry!!) a tampon. But what was worse was that I Had had my period a few weeks before, and remembered removing all tampons, so I'm not sure when it was from, but apparently it was pushed so far up and so saturated, that I still bled and inserted More after that.

So I 'think' it was from the month before my last period, but honestly I have no idea. I don't remember a horrific smell...I remember a 'bad' smell but not horrific.

My mum is a GP receptionist BTW, she said it's very common, she's had to chaperone loads! Shock (from behind a curtain)

Wait and see. Chances are that you'll be fine and the smell will dissipate in a day or so. If you haven't been unwell so far, it's very unlikely that you will be now the wretched thing is out.

OMG does anyone else feel a sudden urge to go and get a torch and a mirror and lie on their backs?!?

Apparently porn actresses put makeup sponges up there when they're on their periods so they can keep working and it's quite common for them to forget about these and for them to, ahem, reappear suddenly on set. There was no mention of additional medical treatment in the interview where I heard this nugget, but nonetheless it might be advisable to see your GP if you get discharge, whiffs, pain or any other symptom of TSS.

When it came out where you like, "this is going to be a really good drunken anecdote in like two years"? I find that gets me through a lot in life.

Hasn't happened to me...but to make you feel better it has happened to several people I know. I think it's more common than you think.

Are you sure it was a tampon? Because unless you've had a period after having your Mirena fitted a tampon would have been noticed by the HCP fitting it.
I think I'd be heading for the docs. ??
