To be upset that takeaways are less charitable thesedays

It used to be all the time that take aways did charity promotions, KFC pink bucket to cure breast cancer, McDonalds meal to provide drinking water. But these days you rarely see it. Would really influence my Friday night treat choice. Not sure if its because companies are shunning corporate responsibility or if people really are that selfish these days.

If you want to give to charity, there are better ways of doing it than through takeaways.

Stop whinging, have a Chinese and drop some money in a charity tin.

Because big charities are just money making machines to generate employee wages and big corporations already do this. Give your money directly to small local charities.

KFC to cure cancer? Hmm

They are too big and established to care if you go somewhere else. Give directly to a charity.

You let it influence what you eat on a Friday? Grin

You mean takeaways as in the restaurant part with a charity tin? Such as McDonalds have a blond charity box at some?
As that still happens. Or do you mean they come round with a tin at your door as they hand over your pizza? As I've never seen that. Smile
Even if they don't, why not just donate to the charity of your choice when next in town or whatever?! Confused

McDonalds actually have their own charity - Ronald McDonald House that provides purpose built accommodation on hospital sites for parents who have very poorly children giving parents a 'home away from home' Great charity makes things so much easier with a little one in hospital

Obviously I still give, but I am in the minority . I loved knowing that KFC were donating millions to breast cancer (buckets for the cure) and it caused many to donate that wouldn't usually and increases awareness.

MC Donald's have a charity that provides accommodation for families whose children are in hospital far away from home. My friend stayed in one when her dd was sick, it's a really good and worthwhile charity.

Is choosing your own charity and your own food too difficult or something?

Perhaps you should ask yourself "what would Nicola Sturgeon do?"

Report

If Nicola had the power she would make all companies pay tax and distribute this to benefit the whole county! But her hands are tied right now :(

Just set up some standing orders to your preferred charity. Don't forget to tick the gift aid box.

Yes, I know McDonald's have their own charity, but there's also a charity box for the blind (sorry, can't remember the exact name of the charity) at the one near ours.
Great fun for the kids to put pennies in as it swirls round and round to the bottom before it plops into the hole. Grin

I'm no fan of McDonald's but their charity is a good one. All admin costs are paid out of head office so everything donated goes to funding hospital accommodation. Unlike many other charities with their lavish head offices and chuggers - yes I know Kids Company shows that charities do need effective administration but some charities are excessive.

McDonalds has collecting boxes at every till for their Ronald McDonald houses.

Now I am not a big McD fan, but when my niece spent 6 months in hospital 2hours away from home, her parents and toddler sister were able to stay in the house next to the hospital. It made a huge difference to them.

But you should chose the charity you want and donate to that rather than chose your food according to their charity choices.

The McDonald houses at the hospitals are just amazing and I know people who have found them an absolute godsend. Our local hospital is a specialist centre for loads of stuff so some parents are hundreds of miles from home for a long time.
Anyway, our local McDonalds franchise chap apparently raises a lot for them- not just the boxes on the tills but that helps. I always put my change in but it's quite often only 1p so have to find a bit more.

I have never understand why people let companies "we will give one drink of water for every product sold" influence them. These companies could afford to give that easily yet instead use it as a marketing ploy.

I agree though that McDonalds do great work with Ronald McDonald house and don't seem to go down the emotional blackmail route to get people to support them either.

Ah, I love the naivety about how attracting companies to base themselves in the UK really works...

Please do some proper economic research before posting such guff.

The Costa Coffees and Starbucks' round here all have charity boxes near the coffee pick up spot. If it's not s simple box then there's a sponsor form for some sort of money raising event.

Our local Coop and Morrisons also have this. Maybe it's part of retail culture to raise money for charity and politely get money from customers.

When I order from Pizza Hut and Dominoes they often ask if I want to add a donation to their chosen charity.
