migrants - AIBU to wonder how this will all work out ?

My understanding of the migrant crisis is that the majority of the migrants are coming from countries which do not, in any way, share or support Western beliefs/values/way of life. They are now flooding into Western Europe in the hundreds of thousands. Nobody knows who they are or their background in their home country. AIBU to wonder what will be the result of this ?

They are fleeing war/violence etc. AIBU to wonder why, when they reach Hungary, which is a 'safe' country, (although economically depressed), is it not good enough and they are determined to reach Germany, UK, Austria etc ?

AIBU to wonder why the majority of these migrants feel it is acceptable to stampede through European law immigration procedures to reach their chosen country rather than wait and be correctly processed in the 'safe country they have landed in ? Surely if a person has landed in a 'safe' country, after witnessing goodness knows what in their home country, they should respect and adhere to the policies and procedures of that country ?

AIBU to wonder how this will all work out ?

I would like to hear your calm and measured thoughts please................

I agree with everything you've said. Most of the world seems to feel differently though so I mostly keep my opinions to myself on this.

Brace yourself, OP.

There is another thread asking where people would go if they had to flee their country. Would they go to the nearest country or would they aim to go to a country where they could speak the language or had more chance of acceptance/asylum or had friends/family or had more chance of employment etc etc.

Pretty much every single person on that thread has said they would go to A country for reasons I have stated above. I guess the refugees are doing the same.

You've posted this in chat

Lazy journalist?

Macadaamia · 04/09/2015 20:33

Is this in response to the refugees breaking out of the camps they've been placed in to be processed?

IndridCold · 04/09/2015 20:34

I'm just wondering why they have suddenly started moving en masse like this. Some of those people have been living as refugees in Turkey and other countries for three or four years. What has suddenly triggered this huge influx?

lovelyconverse123 · 04/09/2015 20:37

not at all lunchpack I just thought there would be more traffic on aibu and I am just interested in peoples views...........that's all.

They are REFUGEES! Not migrants.

YeOldeTrout · 04/09/2015 20:43

I wondered why NOW too. After so many years of strife & civil war, why now?
they are people with get up & go, I feel sure the vast majority are ace additions to the countries they go live in. It's the unknown minority extremists I worry about.

LunchpackOfNotreDame · 04/09/2015 20:43

Some are refugees some are migrants. Sweeping statements do neither any favours

Slammerkins · 04/09/2015 20:44

You could always read one of the many other threads about it on here.YABU not to do that.

spatchcock · 04/09/2015 20:45

It's become worse because the war has become worse. There are more people leaving Syria now, and the refugees (not migrants) in Turkey are realising that they won't be able to go home anytime soon, and because they can't work in Turkey they have no choice but to move on.

I don't think they can work in Hungary either, can they? Or they have been denied asylum there. Hungary's human rights record isn't exactly exemplary.

I was able to move to the UK without anyone knowing my background. They're just people. Western Europe has always seen migration, since the year dot. This is just a peak. There will be troughs. Many of the refugees will move back to Syria once peace is restored. I hope that will be soon.

Macadaamia · 04/09/2015 20:45

If they are refusing to cooperate with the rules and are throwing their wives and children onto train tracks then I doubt they will be very receptive to being told they have no choice in where they go.

I don't agree with a lot of what you said op.... But I do feel that there will be lots of problems ahead, particularly surrounding integration. A poster on another thread who took in refugee's in the UK (not Syrian) said that it wasn't easy at all and she was very out of pocket due to the refugees being entitled to barely anything.

So if they aren't entitled to much money then I assume they won't be able to support themselves in independent housing. So they will have to live in camps/hostels provided. And it seems they don't want that and won't accept that

lovelyconverse123 · 04/09/2015 20:45

Lostlight, you are completely entitled to refer to them as refugees. As am I to refer to them as migrants.

OP posts:
NeedsAsockamnesty · 04/09/2015 20:45

Why do you feel you are entitled to know anything about anybody else?

Oh and we don't have a migrant crisis we have a refugee crisis.

TenForward82 · 04/09/2015 20:47

Oh, PLEASE stop with the politically correct nonsense. Yes, some are refugees, SOME are migrants. They're not ALL refugees.

Unless you're in favour of finding out which is which and barring the migrants from your country? Doubtful.

ilovesooty · 04/09/2015 20:48

Perhaps they don't want to stay in a country which isn't exactly renowned for its tolerance and human rights record.

Lj8893 · 04/09/2015 20:48

But you are wrong by calling them migrants.

ilovesooty · 04/09/2015 20:49

Oh great. It didn't take long for "politically correct" to make an appearance as an insult.

lovelyconverse123 · 04/09/2015 20:51

Needs I don't feel I am entitled to know anything about anybody else, I merely said that nobody knows anything about any of this group of people.

It is your own opinion that they are refugees.

OP posts:
TenForward82 · 04/09/2015 20:52

Sorry sooty, but 3 or 4 posts in a row going "they're REFUGEES, don't you know", by people who probably didn't even know the politically correct term until it started making the rounds as a Facebook petition, are snooty and annoying.

Please it's incorrect as they are NOT all refugees.

TenForward82 · 04/09/2015 20:52

Plus not please*

museumum · 04/09/2015 20:52

Some of them have been in camps for years. They want a life. Work, school and a home however modest not a row of tents. How long would you want to live in a row of tents with no gainful employment or school for your children?
You say they don't share "western values" but I think you'd be surprised. These are people fleeing fundamentalism not supporting it. They want to work, live in a community, educate their children.

spatchcock · 04/09/2015 20:54

Just by saying it's your "opinion" doesn't make something correct. A refugee is someone who has been displaced from their homeland by war. Four million people have left Syria because of war, ergo, they are refugees. I imagine there are some economic migrants mixed in with everything but the massive, overwhelming majority of people on the move are fleeing war.

Macadaamia · 04/09/2015 20:54

If they come to us as refugees do you really think they will be able to work here? They won't have a passport, money to live off, anything
