If it is his pub then no not unreasonable. I would love to go to a pub where children are banned, I got to the pub to socialise away from my DC and it is frustrating to then have to put up with other people's DC. I hardly go to the pub these days because of that tbh.

i think it's fine for him to ban kids if that's what his regulars want.

i will never forget the Christmas work meal/booze up ruined by young kids not being seen to properly in a family unfriendly pub.

pubs are not the places for kids. there are shit loads of restaurants and family pubs for parents to go to.
there is no way i would inflict my kids on the patrons of a 'pub' pub.

Yeah I think he's not being unreasonable. He will lose custom of course, but that's his choice. There are plenty of child friendly pubs, and if he didn't ban them the chances are it wouldn't be a very welcoming or suitable pub for children anyway.

Sounds good to me! I go to family friendly places with my children but if it's an adults only thing it's good to get somewhere without children!

I'm a bit half and half about children in pubs. It's fine if they behave but this landlord was blaming parents for not controlling the kids. He allows them in the garden but he said he might even ban them from there, the amount of damage they do. He says business is booming with his no kids rule, people like to go out and have a drink in peace. I've got to say, I kind of agree with him. Just wondered what everyone else thought.

No, he's not being at all unreasonable. A pub is for adults. Not all adults like children and some children are incredibly badly-behaved and not adequately supervised by their parents.

A pub is a business and it is not unreasonable for a business to have a target group of customers. If this landlord feels that a ban on children will maximise his profits and keep his regular customers happy then he is being sensible.
Too many pubs try to appeal to everyone and consequently end up failing a lot of people. There are already plenty of places catering for families, why shouldn't there be adults only pubs too? I much prefer to do my eating and drinking in a grown up space if I don't have children with me and I am sure a lot of others do too.

Seems perfectly reasonable, there are plenty of family friendly places with kid menus and play equipment - I wouldn't go to one of those as I don't have children, so what's wrong with pubs with a more grown up vibe

in all the times I've seen kids behaving badly in foody places it usually is down to the parents not controlling them, they just sit there ignoring the chaos and sipping their foamy coffee, so the LL is not wrong there.

Like it or not, not everyone finds your child cute or endearing when they are running around, making a noise or being a PITA. Some people want to go out and enjoy a quiet drink or meal without being bothered by other people's unruly kids. I wish there were more places like this.

We often go to pubs for Sunday lunch and always go to kid friendly ones (that have toys no less!).

But on the rare occasion I have a drink with friends I avoid those places like the plague and want to enjoy the child free time.
His decision is so fair and normal I actually don't understand how it made it on This a Morning.
