AIBU?

AIBU to think I injured little one despite seeming fine!

Right I did something really daft, so don't scold me I've already scolded myself.

Little one (9 months old) has been struggling to breath all day, had a nasty crusted up snot in her nose and she wouldn't let be got to. She fell asleep, to which I thought was dead to the world. Thought I'd quickly sneak in there with a cotton bud/ q tip, she woke up with a start! me mid forraging for said bogie.

Needless to say the q tip went a lot deeper than expected, and she cried/wailed, not for long, less than a minute. Cuddle and a bit of milk later and she seemed fine.

Now my silly paranoid sleepless brain has gone into over drive thinking I may have poked her in the brain and other ridiculous notions.

Can some one bring me a brew and a cake and remind me their child can fit a whole crayon up there please?

(I never use cotton buds on her, don't know what compelled me to!)

You won't have poked her in the brain. Don't do it again though, as tempting as it may seem.

We had a snot sucker it wouldn't even go near hear face, so we ended up getting rid.

She's still in our room :), can't afford a humidifyer I'm afraid.

The cotton buds are staying in my make up bag where they belong! lol

Ah my little boy always found it so funny when I used it Grin

It's awful when they have colds isn't it, I hate it! We found it helpful to put a bowl of hot water with some menthol drops under his cot and also a saline spray used to help clear it so he could breathe better

Are you bf? Breast milk up the nose works a treat..my ds dies the snuffly whistling thing, complete with bogeys actually moving in and out..buggered if I can grab them but the milk softens them and gets rid, or makes them sneeze them out, they dont mind the taste as much as saline..(don't ask how I got it there...)

BrewCake no harm done. You have not poked her in the brain, she is ok. You wwere just trying to clear her little nose. Xx

Unfortunately she's formula fed, don't think squirting that up her nose would have the same effect! haha

Thanks for the Cake and Brews

On a positive, there's not bogies now... lol...

I remember trying the snot sucker on DD once when she was sleeping. She woke up mid suck. I'm sure she must have thought I was trying to suck her brain out via her nostril. She screamed the house down. The snot sucker went in the bin after that.

I also let her fall off the bed onto a hair brush once and she ended up with a brush imprint on her face.

Cake Brew

You should see the size of a nasal pack for nosebleeds, even scaled down to a 9 month old you didn't poke them on the brain! There is quite a space back there.

Still I'd stick to saline drops or one of those snot suckers from the chemist!

Plus I'd scream if I woke and someone was picking my nose!

That made me laugh a lot more than it should have done.

Lol but It was definitely her lunging forward onto the q tip and half the q tip going up the nasal passage that made her scream... my eyes watered for her! I felt it go further than it should, made me cringe a little.

she will be fine. good squirt of saline spray work well (though you may have catch unaware to squirt). baths work well as when I used poor water over do head he would snuffle and splutter and bogeys would fly

Saline drops can be quietly dropped up their nose whilst they sleep, if they sleep on their back Smile

And as a dedicated picker/groomer of my kids I may possibly keep my right little fingernail longer than the rest for bogey and earwax purposes..... Grin

You have four huge sinuses behind your face, which are just empty space - it will have gone into one of these very briefly (and felt it 'popping' through as you lined up with the entrance and then went in). If you didn't cause a pouring nosebleed, you definitely have not harmed anything (and if you did, all you have done is cut the inside of the sinus a little, which will happily heal up by itself).
