I admit some of their food is good quality, but I'm always put off by the belt. It always has sugar, flour or washing powder on it.

Other supermarkets do seem to clean their belts often but the budget places it always seems to be filthy.

Aibu to think they should clean it more or install something underneath to clean it?

I may be a bit ocd, but it really puts me off as I buy lots of fruit and veg and don't want it touching washing powder or anything else dodgy like that.

A guy was recently killed by making a cup of coffee with washing powder, so it is very dangerous.

Roughly how many of their stores have you been in?

I've never noticed.

Never seen it in either supermarket here. Clean belts all round.

Maybe your local stores are just grubby. Our stores have the clear plastic bags for you to put lose fruit and veg in too.

A bit of washing powder on your fruit isn't the same and ingesting a cupful and you should wash fruit anyway

Our local Lidl and Aldi aren't filthy by any means. As for your comment about a man making coffee with washing powder, I can only say Confused.

not in our Aldi

Oh yes, good point. They have clear bags for the loose fruit and veg.

Nope, not noticed either. In a former life I worked on a checkout for one of the larger supermarkets and whenever they cleaned the belts, which wasn't very often, the cloths were filthy afterwards. They might be crumb free, but they sure ain't germ free!

No difference in lidl, marks, tesco or sainsburys from what ive seen. Just wash veg! You never know who has sneezed on it, picked it up without washing hands etc.

The conveyor belt in Aldi on Saturday was perfectly clean. The conveyor belt in Tesco on Sunday was gopping. Therefore I declare all Tesco stores grim. Tell everyone!

The whole of our Lidl is disgusting, not just the conveyor belt. On the rare occasion I go in there, I always come out felling like I need a damn good wash Confused

First off, there's no such thing as being "a bit OCD".

Secondly, YABU. Just wash your fruit and veg. Or, yanno, shop somewhere else. (I've never noticed it being an issue tbh.)

Ffs. Just wash your fruit and vegetables then. I don't think I've ever seen a grubby conveyor belt in Aldi or Lidl.

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 02/09/2015 18:19

You're presumably going to wash everything first so what it is the issue?

Oh and YABU for posting this in AIBU when it obviously is not an AIBU.

The conveyor belt in my local Aldi was really sticky when it jerked forward and my glass bottle of pink lemonade smashed everywhere. It had been perfectly clean up until then though. Smile

Annie I suspect she knows she wouldn't get so much attention anywhere else.

I know you are right ilovesooty but it still drives me insane. Although, I "may be a bit" bitchy. Wink
