Just started this on Netflix. How does Abby (?) teach the girls their routines, she doesn't look the dancing type?

She has assistants but choreo is about direction and the right terminology rather than demonstrating ...... And it's a reality show so scripted and edited too!

We stopped watching it because she gets more vile as the show goes on.

She stands by her achievements and states that nothing else matters, even reducing children to tears and damaging their self esteem.

I don't think you understand the basics of dance and choreography. You don't have to 'look the type' to be able to choreograph. I'm not even sure what you mean by 'she doesn't look like the dancing type'. What does one of them typically look like then?

What?? It's on Netflix, you say? How did I not know this!

The type, if you know nothing about the technical aspect, would be what you'd expect an ex dancer to look like, carrying no excess body fat etc.

However their joints are usually knackered and their bone health, not good.

She's a big lady, she doesn't look like a dancer.

I'm watching it on Netflix USA :p

Sir Alex Ferguson didn't look like he could kick a ball through a wet paper bag but, y'know...and Arlene Phillips hasn't danced for years but she can still choreograph.

I read that she used to Dance but wasn't really that into dancing herself. Her mum was a dance teacher and then Abby opened her own company. She knows a lot about Dance.

Love dance moms. I can see her style and technique but sometimes takes it too far!

Not all dancers are skinny, you know. Nor do they have to be. Anyone with a sense of rhythm line and grace can dance. None of those things are affected by whether you're fat or thin.

Love Dance Moms. Abby does get progressively more aggressive and - well - odd Over the various seasons! It's great shouting at the telly fare, though. My favourite in those early sepasons is Chloe. So elegant.

Abby, is verging on sociopathic but somehow I keep watching! (under some duress from ds who's obsessed with it!) She's sooo evil!Angry How the mothers put their kids through that every week I will never know.
I miss Kelly and Christi though Sad Blush

I live near her studio but I had to stop watching Dance Moms. I found it very sad watching Abby berate the kids frequently!

She is a brilliant teacher/choreographer, though.

Abby is a strange one. I sometimes quite like her and I'm very aware of heavy editing - I remember in one of the early episodes her asking Chloe 'are you ok, honey?' when Chloe stumbled during rehearsal. The focus of that scene was something entirely different - I doubt they meant to show Abby being nice. I'm also mindful of Melissa saying in an interview that the show didn't show how much Abby adored the girls but especially Nia.

I like Christie, I really do - and Kelly always made me laugh - but I can see how dealing with those two on a daily basis would be damned hard work!

I've only seen halfway through season 4, but I do know what you mean - I think seasons 1 and 2 were far more authentic, for want of a better word.

I also do get bored of the candy apples fights.

It's eerie how alike Chloe and Paige look. My DH saw it once and reckons there was a mix up in the hospital. Grin

Maddie and mackenzie look spookily alike as well.

Omg just saw the one where Chloe froze on stage, I just want to run up and cuddle her! How can the parents sit and see their kids breakdown and not able to cuddle them :(

Well, she's hardly going to run into the stage in the middle of Chloe's dance, is she? Grin

Besides, all the girls have done it (apart from Brooke.)

I'll just leave this here. Especially if you think bigger girls can't dance.
