AIBU?

Yodel, again!

So, a couple of weeks ago, we ordered a kitchen appliance which was delivered by Yodel. Ordered on Monday, arrived, as per tracking info, on Wednesday. We were impressed with the product and ordered another one from the same supplier, as a gift for someone moving into a new home.

Ordered on Monday, Tracking page indicated it was en route and we waited for an update to the info. No update appeared after three days, so I contacted Yodel who told me the item was 'missing' and to contact the supplier. Supplier instructs Yodel to carry out a search for the missing item, which is unsuccessful, so a replacement is dispatched on 'expedited delivery', still with Yodel.

I follow the tracking page which indicates that the item is out for delivery this morning at around 10 am. So, DH and I make sure that one of us is always around the living room so we can see when the vehicle pulls up. Except that by 20:15, there is still no sign of the parcel. tracking page is still showing it as 'en route'. At 20:30, I check tracker page again and this time it has updated - it now says the parcel was delivered at 13:04! IT WAS NOT! We were here the whole time. It is a huge parcel, so absolutely not something that could be accidentally posted through the wrong letterbox. There are no similarly named roads in the area, indeed, our road name is totally unique, so it cannot have been delivered to, for example, Acacia Avenue rather than Acacia Street. The update was made too late to contact either the supplier or Yodel until Tuesday now, so we are still unable to hand over this gift to the recipient.

AIBU to begin to wonder about the honesty of the staff at our local Yodel depot? This parcel is just too big to 'go missing', and now today's episode has really got me wondering. I am fuming. Angry

Yeah - Yodel are awful. I ordered a 64 piece cutlery set that went awol. Yodel tried to tell me they'd posted it through my letter box. A 64 piece cutlery set...I don't think so.

I paid extra for next day delivery of 2 pairs of expensive trainers.
Asked my DD to wait in for me as I had to go out.
Received a text telling me 'parcel has been left in the porch'.

I don't have a porch!!!

I am now trying to get a refund whilst being made to feel like a liar for saying I've not received the parcel!!

Yodel are shit. Angry

I had TNT once try to 'deliver' something for me. They even sent a photo of our front door. Except although it looked like our front door, it wasn't quite. I managed through street view to find that a house with a similar address had exactly that front door. So they rang the doorbell and no one was in, yet I was sitting at home awaiting the van. Luckily it had to be signed for. But They had mixed up their paperwork so that this other address was attached to my item, if you see what I mean. That's how these things happen.

Update: a large van pulled up about 45 minutes ago. I'm waiting for a delivery from Amazon so when the van driver comes up the path, I expect it to be the Amazon man. But no, it's the Yodel man. With my parcel. The one that was supposedly delivered yesterday. No apology or explanation until I ask what happened when he tells me that his van 'broke down' yesterday. Apparently the system assumes that everything is delivered even though there is no corresponding signature. Not sure I believed him, got the definite feeling he had better things to do yesterday and was just playing catch up today. Anyway, I can at least pass the gift on and need to send another email to the sender to let them know parcel has now arrived.

Yodel are awful. They chucked a parcel over our fence once, not even ours, but for someone a few doors down. So I took it down to the correct house. The next day there was a knock at the door and it was a Yodel driver asking for the parcel back. I explained that I'd taken it down myself and he got quite shouty as "that's not your job, that's MY job that I'M PAID FOR!". When I pointed out that he had surely already failed in that job by throwing it over my fence in the first place he spun on his heel and huffed back to his van.

They do the occasional delivery to the shop I work in too, the other day the bell rang and by the time I got to the door (literally 20 seconds) they'd dumped a package in our return crates (that are taken away later in the day) and had disappeared. We're meant to sign for all parcels.

I've never had problems with them before, but the lady who used to deliver has recently switched to another company so now we have a different Yodel driver. Lady was amazing, she knew when I was at work and always timed any deliveries around that. I will just make sure that in future I don't order anything from companies that use Yodel.

Thought it was just me being unreasonable to think they were rubbish.

Twice in the last month have had problems - first was a cable from Amazon - definitely ok to fit through letter box and according to Yodel was posted through my letter box - except it wasn't. Took 36 hours for them to "interview" their driver who insisted he had posted it through the correct door - so I had to take it up with Amazon.

Then a photo collage was sent using them which allegedly was delivered to a neighbour - no card through my door, I had to go through their appalling customer service to find this out. I can't get said neighbour to answer door to tell me if they have package or not. Because they say neighbour has it no-one will help me until I've spoken to neighbour. Any ideas anyone?

As far as I'm aware the fact your neighbour may have it is their problem not yours. The seller is who your contract is with, it is their job to ensure you get your item, be it forcing the courier to find it or issuing a new one.

I think I am unusual on mumsnet in so far as all the couriers that come here are great (and there are a lot).

Yodel are shit. They have quotas for delivery/attempted delivery, so even if they don't deliver a package they often mark it as "delivered" or "attempted delivery" even if they were nowhere near your house. The running joke is that if you want to get away with murder and hide a body, ship it overnight priority via Yodel. It will get lost and never be seen again.
