AIBU?

To wonder what lengths you'd have gone to to be a parent?

Would you have considered:

  • going it alone (if you hadn't met someone)
  • IVF
  • adoption
  • surrogacy

I realise for most people the above is hypothetical?

Thank you :)

Are you writing an article?

Arsenic · 28/08/2015 09:05

Is this journalistic 'wondering'?

Arsenic · 28/08/2015 09:06

I am still happily going it alone with dc2.

Aoifebell · 28/08/2015 09:09

What would you do op?

Waltermittythesequel · 28/08/2015 09:10

Why are you wondering?

hazeyjane · 28/08/2015 09:10

oh bollocks, didn't occur to me that op was a journalist, thought it was someone in the position of struggling to conceive.

I hate it when that happens, makes me feel like a right tit.

I wonder if MNHQ would remove my post.

BathshebaDarkstone · 28/08/2015 09:11

I've no idea. DF always said I only had to look at a prick and I'd get pregnant (4 easily conceived DC)! Maybe I'd try all of the above. Can you have IVF again if it's worked once?

jedimac · 28/08/2015 09:11

DD was unplanned and if I hadn't had her then I'm not sure I would have actively ttc at all. I certainly wouldn't have felt motivated enough to go through any of the suggestions mentioned (although as it turns out I did go it alone with her due to relationship breaking down when I was pg). I would have just embraced the child free lifestyle I think.

Arsenic · 28/08/2015 09:12

There you go; lovely penis-quote from Bathsheba, now off you go.

BathshebaDarkstone · 28/08/2015 09:16

I don't give a shit if you're a journo. hazey and I may be the only people who give you any information though! Grin

harumph, I just think people should state their intentions.

and I shouldn't be such a blabbermouth.

EponasWildDaughter · 28/08/2015 09:22

I just think people should state their intentions.

I agree. If this is someone doing research why not say so? Also - would MN HQ look badly on it?

WhirlyTwos · 28/08/2015 09:24

Sensitive subject for many OP. You sound very factual about it all, with your half-baked "escalating" list. Perhaps you'd show good faith and share your experiences and views?

hazeyjane · 28/08/2015 09:25

Well hopefully they would direct them to their media requests section.

Andcake · 28/08/2015 09:27

Hmm was preparing to share - I went through quite a lot and would have done more but having read the thread this definitely smells of journo.
Why does she/he not share their own experience!

justwondering2015 · 28/08/2015 09:27

Hi,

I am definitely not a journalist.

I wish I was. I might be on more money Confused Wink

No, I am wondering - don't know really. I'm coming to the end of my 30s. I want to be a parent so much but the odds seem stacked high against me - single, and might for all I know need fertility treatment anyway in account of my age.

I went to an adoption open evening but it just upset me, and made me feel bad.

So am grateful for your responses. Definitely not a media request.

What's wrong if they are a journalist?

  • going it alone (if you hadn't met someone): Before I had DD, possibly. If I knew what I know now, how hard it is to be a parent, then no.

  • IVF: It's a bit too expensive for me to consider, if money was not an object, then I would.

  • adoption: Yes. However I think before I can fully decide if adoption is right, my DH and I plan to try fostering first to see if it's right for us.

  • surrogacy: I have considered being a surrogate, but not having someone else be a surrogate for me.
MsRinky · 28/08/2015 09:33

I tried shagging my husband, and when that didn't work, gave up on the idea.

Very happy, have fun with my 6 godchildren but quite often look back and think thank god I couldn't get pregnant! But I'm a big believer in wanting what you've got.

justwondering2015 · 28/08/2015 09:37

I'm not a journalist.
