Just returned from a car boot sale with dh. We havent been to a car boot for years. We needed some bowls as dh is very good at smashing china. One stall had these beautiful china chicken bowls and was very reasonably priced. (£1 for the five bowls). so pleased with my purchase as can just image cereal out of them and so much prettier than what we have (none matching as various family members have given us their odd bits). We did a supermarket shop on the way back On returning we carried the bowls and the shopping back. Dh took most of the shopping into the kitchen with the bowls whilst i carried other items in. I then heard a huge smash with a large sorry. Every single one of my beautiful chicken bowls had been smashed. At present im mntting and planning... (I know it was only £1 and an accident And those bowls were too nice for me..but i can make he feel bad for abit cant i)

How did he manage to break them all? Make a note not to leave him in charge of bowl carrying in the future!

Oh that's a shame, they look (looked) lovely...

They were very pretty bowls.

If it were me I would be feeling bad at how awful my DH were feeling and wishing I had carried in the bowls myself. I do feel for you though as I once rushed home to get my purse to buy perfect breakfast bowls from the charity shop and they were sold by the time I got there.

What is a chicken bowl?

Happy36 · 02/08/2015 15:35

FlipFlops I think it means with a chicken design (see the photo).

OP, I hope he manages to find some for you online. Does he have a problem with motor skills that makes him clumsy? Might be worth investigating as he could do some exercises to help him gain more control and that in turn could prevent or delay problems with hand/finger control when he gets older.

Happy right..chicken design on the bowls. Thought the picture showed that. Anyway cant find them on ebay so chalking it up to experience and banned dh from carrying bowls again. He might have to take me to another car boot next week. Am considering plastic bowls might be the way forward.. Dh has just admitted he managed to deadhead his mothers china ladies as a child or teenager and stuck them together with glue. Shes unaware of this. Now feeling sorry for my mil.

Your revelation about him deadheading the china ladies made me laugh! I'm the clumsy one here so dh is designated carrier of fragile/breakable items.

I'd be livid! DH has a form for carelessness, and this would just fuel my fire.

That is what dh would do. Bowls, glasses, my lovely measuring glass...

I'm furious with him on your behalf, OP. Mainly because those are from the Highgrove shop and cost £15 each new! I've been coveting them for ages.

How does he break so much stuff though?

And how did he drop the bowls?

Carrying too much stuff?

Balancing it precariously?

Diddl. He was carrying in the bowls and a shopping bag at the same time. Now even more cross if 15 each. Dh is so cooking tonight. Amazing got 6 for £1. Thought it was 5 but have just stuck them together and looks like 6 chickens. One bowl is just split in two so cant hold cereal but could look nice. Will never ask to see my mil china ladies in her china cabinet now....

I know. I wish id left the chicken bowls in the boot of the car now. Anyway what is done is done. Ive kept just the one in two and glued it together. It wouldnt hold liquid but im sure i can get some use of it somewhere... I need some new bowls now so its another car boot sale next week i think....

Hope it hasn't damaged the floor. My DH once dropped a plate onto my tiled floor and chipped the tile also. Grrr.
