following on from a few threads about healthy diets etc.

Interested to see what people eat and if they think their diet is 'healthy' I'm not hugely health conscious (i run a minimum of 30 miles a week up to 60 sometimes so I like to think that makes up for it somehow!) but i did make a concerted effort to cut fizzy drinks (cola etc) out as that's rubbish and if i wanted something fizzy and sweet a bit of elderflower cordial and sparkling water tends to do the trick!
I'm also a vegetarian

Breakfast - rarely have unless we have bagels in, in which case i'll have one with butter and marmite. Probably once a week? Once/twice a month i'll have crepe style pancakes with syrup.

Lunch - Either jacket potato with beans and cheese or left overs from the night before.

Dinners - i love cooking! currys are my favourite, either chickpea or paneer, w rice. Qesedillas with refried beans, cheese an courgettes another fixture, various gnocchi dishes, pasta and pesto, falafel i make a lot, home made bean burgers and wedges, not averse to the odd pizza, fajitas/enchiladas with veggies and beans, veggie chillies/paella/risotto/stirfrys with noodles etc etc.
I try to avoid too many quorn/cauldron/other meat replacement stuff as as much as i like it, it definitely has made me feel a bit sickly before.

snacks - if I'm running more than 10 miles in one day i will occasionally (always) fall foul to wanting a sugary pick me up - usually a galaxy bar! Sometimes a slice of bread and butter or ryvita cracker and marmite if dinner is taking a while to cook.

drink - litres of water and sugar free orange squash - no coffee/tea (dont like hot drinks). Lucozade sport before a long run or race, alcohol once a week maybe? sometimes more sometimes less with average out at that. occasional sparkling elderflower/cloudy lemonade.

Probably go to for a meal once a week, sometimes i'll have a salad or a soup, sometimes a whole cheese and tomato pizza with sides and alcohol!

Most of my food is carb-heavy (but i do run a lot!) but nearly all scratch made, plenty of variety, don't shy away from carbs/sugar/fat etc. I'm a healthy weight if not a bit above 'racing weight' at the moment, and i think it's all fairly healthy.

Interested to see what others eat and think?

Mines awful. Don't eat meals, snack on bits of stuff.

this is a good example of the stuff the other thread was on about

I used to love food diaries and competitive eating when I was 6 stone and ill

sorry OP I am sure you don't mean to jump right into another debate but yabu!

You race and you drink lucozade sport??
It's full of crap

Other than that sentence I think your diet sounds quite normal. Would be interesting to relate daily food diaries to BMI as pp stated.

Breakfast: cereal, coffee, bit of fruit.
Lunch: sandwich, bag of crisps, fruit, yogurt.
Dinner: jacket potato/chile com carne/macaroni cheese. Fish on a Friday.

Always have a sneaky bit of choc before bed...

We're about to move into our first home so trying to keep food budget to £250 a month. So plan ahead for every meal and try and not waste anything. It's quite easy and it's nice to know that Mondays are jacket potato nights!

I have a history of an ED and talk through what I eat with my therapist. I known have a 'healthy' diet, but it doesn't mean I have a healthy attitude towards food. I think and think about everything I eat. I still mentally tally up the calories. I hope one day I can get to a point where I just eat, and don't berate myself for wanting to.

I eat very different things each day to try and avoid creating habits and rituals that I then get fixated on.

Eggs every morning without fail, either mixed with bananas to make 'pancakes' or with veg as an omlette.

Lots of black coffee, salads with quinoa for lunch, some fruit in the afternoon, then dinner varies (but generally grilled meat/fish with veg).

I eat as close to paleo as possible - no gluten, refined sugar, artificial sweetners, and only quinoa as a grain. I exercise 6 times a week.

Still heavier than I would like (but within a healthy BMI). I occasionally binge on sugar, which I'm trying to control. So last Thursday I ate an entire tub of Ben and Jerry's in the evening for dinner. It's always secret eating and so unhealthy!

I am 2st overweight (have lost a stone already though) so I'm currently watching my calories.

I am on about 1600 a day but I'm also ebf a 6 month old - we've started weaning it she is still on as much milk as before.

I try not to have carbs with my evening meal every other day and I've cut out all refined sugar and general crap.

An average day would be

2 small slices wholemeal toast, portion watermelon.
Strawberries and grapes mid morning
Omelette for lunch - just with cheese
Few slices if Ham or beef mid afternoon. Or a few rice cakes
Chicken fajitas for dinner. I have mini wraps (so 85 calories per wrap and I have 2) or if I'm having no carbs I just have a bigger portion of chicken and make a side salad.

I am more relaxed at weekends. We had spag bol last night but normally Saturday night is the night I don't cook (so it's take away or eat out or OH does a steak)

I don't formally exercise as I'm having physio due to a bad ankle sprain but I do walk daily (aim for 10k steps)

I feel ok about what I eat and I've been systematically losing 1-2lbs a week.

My weakness has always been sugar (and wine) so cutting it out in its refined form works for me.

First thing: Cup of Earl Grey
Brek: one cup of coffee with milk, plus a homemade smoothie if I'm at home or some bircher muesli if I'm at work.

Mid-morning: apple

Lunch: sarnie or soup or salad plus crisps at work, scrambled eggs or cheese sarnie or leftovers if I'm working at home. Coffee and a chocolate or three.

Supper: something homemade if I have the energy/time, e.g. piri piri chicken with spinach & spelt, which I had yesterday, or half a frozen pizza with my husband if knackered, or beans on toast, or fishcakes and steamed spinach. Always chocolate after supper.

Drink: a litre of water a day plus the odd Diet Coke and two cups of green tea.

I run three times a week and hardly drink unless I'm on holiday. Think I do ok though - I have really good days and really crap days but mostly in between. Size 12 and 5ft 6.

Apparently a quantity and combination of foods that will make me very overweight and unhealthy according to the ill informed dietary loons. In reality I eat the perfect diet for my body and lifestyle, basically what I like when I like, to maintain my very low body fat and good health.

I just ate a sandwich. Feel free to judge. I haven't had a sandwich for a million years. I don't like bread that much any more.

It was made with 1/2 and 1/2 bread with ham and salad and mustard.
Then I had a FAB lolly. Grin

I don't run 30 - 60 miles a week, I go to the gym 2 - 4 times a week instead. I can guarantee that I don't work as hard as you do whilst running OP but I leave feeing fantastic and that is why I exercise.

I don't eat exclusively vegan or veggie or paleo (which just makes me think dinosaurs because it's close enough to the start of palaeontologist)
I drink wine
Eat fruit
Eat eggs and meat and potatoes and salad.
I cook most foods from scratch and don't really like pasta that much.

I no longer count my cal
I no longer weigh myself.
Doing these things made me enormously unwell.

I'm a size 12, 5ft 8 and getting married later this month.
I could certainly be thinner, leaner, less "movement" in my skin.
I could also be obsessive, miserable and unhealthy. This is what happens to me.

OP. What you eat and drink is your business. Enjoy it, it's not a competition and if you're sufficiently fuelling your body to do the activity you require of it then yay for you.

Anything else just isn't important.

An average work day (I´m a teacher):

  • drink a 500ml. bottle of water on the way to work (I walk - it takes about 30 mins.), sometimes 2 bottles in summer. After that I drink a lot of water throughout the day. My classroom is very hot and I talk a lot which dries out my mouth.

  • around 09:00 I will often have a small cup of black coffee and sometimes I eat some pieces of melon or watermelon or grapes or cherries that I´ve brought from home

  • at 11:30 I will usually have fruit (as above) or a Granny Smith apple

  • at 14:30 I have a big salad of lettuce, grated carrot, tomato and tuna fish, sometimes with other things like onion, cucumber, beetroot (all fresh) or tinned white asparagus. Occasionally I switch the tuna for anchovies or chicken, but I really love tuna. In summer sometimes I will have a cup of gazpacho soup as well. Sometimes I have a piece of bread too.

  • at 18:30/19:00 I have a Granny Smith apple (after leaving the gym)

  • around 21:00 I eat dinner which is usually light (lunch is the main meal here), always some fruit to start, then something like one or two eggs, a couple of slices of serrano ham, marinated anchovies, half a chicken breast cooked with herbs or spices, occasionally a piece of cheese, maybe with salad, olives or vegetables or just by itself or with a piece of bread. Sometimes I´ll have a cup of peppermint tea afterwards.

I try not to eat treats but if I do it will be at 11:15, a naice biscuit or chocolate that someone has brought into work. I guess I give in once every 2 or 3 weeks.

I usually have:

Breakfast: Alpro with blueberries and granola
Black coffee with 2 sugars

Lunch: salad, usually a take-away one from Pret, or a ham sandwich with a small bag of Wotsits/Frazzles

Dinner: home made (always), lots of chicken, salad, if we have chips they're homemade/oven baked, pasta maybe once/twice a week with homemade pasta sauce...we eat lots of different stuff, too much to list but always with at least 2 portions of veg.

I'm 5 stone overweight. Go figure!

I tend to have fruit and yogurt for breakfast, or something more filling like scrambled eggs on toast or porridge.

Lunch depends on what I've had for breakfast but is usually a sandwich/Omlette/packet pasta/chicken salad/soup. Usually accompanied by yogurt/banana if still hungry.

Tea is a number of things - spaghetti Bolognese, curries, stir fry, burger and chips (homemade), chicken wraps, chilli, meatballs etc. I try to have tea later (8pm ish) to avoid snacking in the evening.

During the day I try not to snack but do sometimes (usually fruit or yogurt). Of course, I'm not perfect and do sometimes fancy crisps/choc/sweets and if I do, I have some. I try not to eat them every day but I do use my syns (on slimming world) as deprivation isn't my style! I've lost weight so a bit of what you fancy does work Grin

I think about food all the time and around about 50% of the time I am on a 'diet' and then I will 'fail' and eat crap for a few days and start again. For this reason I don't have a 'typical' day. I am 5'6'' and weigh 10st exactly and would look and feel much better at 9st7lb (I know, I was this two years ago) but just can't seem to manage it.

Normally -

Have breakfast late - today it was low fat yogurt and a banana

Lunch today was - beans on toast and a homemade cookie I baked with the DC.

Dinner will be homemade curry (tomoto based) and cous cous.

I will have two glasses of wine as it's the first night in with DH in a while.

I read lots of weight loss books and blogs, cookery books etc. It all makes me unhappy and I am constantly scrutinising myself. Food seems like the enemy which is ridiculous!!

Breakfast....1/2 bowl of dry cornflakes and orange juice before running out of door.

Walk for 15 minutes to train station. at other end walk for 15 mins.

Lunch....rocket salad, brie roll on white bread (brown upsets my ibs). Tues jacket potato and cheese as i work near somewhere that makes them.

Drink of water all though the day. Sometime will get one bottle of coke but will refill with water as i drink water all day. If a nice kind patient has bought choc in i might have some...

Walk for 15 mins to train station. Sit on floor for 40 minutes on train. Walk home for 15 minutes.

Tea....either fish, or meat, with veg or potatoes, or cous cous, or or rice or bulgar, or pasta. (Depends what we feel like) Sometimes have thai chicken curry which we cook from Beginning. Yog to finish or if fruit in a fruit salad if energy to cut up. Lately been having a ice cream in a cone after my yog or fruit.

Drinks...occasional glass of wine (will have tonight as 5 of my bowls have just been smashed..another thread). Water. Squash.

Looking at that im wondering why im not losing weight.

I have a hard time remembering what I typically eat! I often think I just 'eat what I want' but in practice I do miss meals due to a very busy work schedule, and don't tend to eat chocolate or sweets (unless they are grabbed in haste to replace a meal I haven't had time to eat). I don't tend to notice hunger until it's acute when I'm rushing around. Typically...

Breakfast: eggs and wholegrain toast, or avocado on wholegrain toast, or a yoghurt/granola pot

Lunch: sushi, or some kind of sandwich. Sometimes chicken with noodles and veg.

Supper: whatever DS is having - protein, lots of veg, bit of carbohydrate. Usually something like salmon, broccoli and carrot, and new potatoes.

I'm 5'10 and a size 10-12. Would like to lose 7lbs or so, but that would necessitate exercising, which I have no wish to do.

Each to their own - food is so caught up with lifestyle and emotions, it's not as easy as knowing what you should eat and then doing that.

On a good day -
Porridge made with mixed dried fruit
Lunch - a wholemeal pitta with cheese or houmous and salad, fruit
Dinner - something like lentil curry and rice, cheese omelette and broccoli or lentil bolognaise (I'm vegetarian).
That is what I should be eating. Unfortunately I usually scoff a few biscuits/packs of mini cheddars/bowls of ice cream as well. I have terrible willpower at the moment, don't know why.
I would like to lose a couple of stones, though I'm quite fit and healthy due to exercising a fair amount.

Breakfast: porridge
Lunch: a large slice of cake and some flapjack. Followed by chocolate biscuits
Dinner: pork steak, new potatoes and salad. Followed by cherry and banana smoothie.

Occasionally I go for a 20 minute run, or a swim.

30-60 miles running seems pretty health concious to me Confused

Also running 40-50 miles a week, OP and deeply OCD about running. BMI of 19.

Breakfast - porridge plus banana. Filter coffee
Snack - nuts, or crackers or piece of fruit or large raw carrot (LOVE raw carrots, eat at least one a day)
Lunch - at work it's soup, bread, salad plus fruit or yoghurt. At home something like sandwich or scrambled egg or leftovers. Plus fruit or full fat Greek yoghurt with tiniest bit of honey.
Supper- depends on husband. If he is cooking it will be risotto or salmon with veg or lamb steak plus veg or Curry or slag Bol or roast. IF me, but lazy - M&S meal, baked potato, scrambled eggs (not twice a day though). Or sardines on toast. Or sometimes if desperate Peanut butter sandwich (the stuff with no added sugar). Then bit of chocolate or biscuit afterwards.

Wine - about 1-2 units a week. 2.5-3 litres water a day plus 2-4 cups tea or coffee.

Oops slag Bol sound so much more exciting. Positively Nigella-esque!

Breakfast: usually skip but occasionally eat cereal
Lunch: ham or cheese sandwich and piece of fruit and 1/4 of cucumber
Dinner: typical family fodder (spag bol, grilled fish veg and boiled potatoes, roast dinners etc)

I have previously had an ED and went down to 6.5 stone at nearly 6' tall. I now weigh more than double that and can't seem to shift any of it.

I dont have a good relationship with food at all.

Gluten free bread and breakfast cereals.
One portion of fruit some point of the day before dinner.
Tonnes of vegetables with dinner and large portion of protein for dinner.
Gluten free pasta and potato in very small portions with dinner.
4 single measures of vodka or gin across week with a diet coke or diet drink.

About 6 to 8 full size chocolate bars (like a 4 finger kitkat or full size mars or full size tube of rolos but 6 or 8 of them), EVERY. SINGLE.DAY. So about 1500 calories on chocolate alone, DAILY.

I have to go to different supermarkets to stock up as i get through them so fast. Trolley literally has a mound of multipack chocolate bars and i hide them from DH.

I am literally addicted to sugar. I am devastated at myself for this.

No gym but walk for miles every day as park car further away and like to walk with the children from school etc.

Low end of normal BMI but i dont think this really matters - i think % of body fat is the real measure.

My fleshy flanks spill out over the top of my jeans waist band!
