AIBU?

To be a bit miffed at a free Daddy Pig cap?

I took the kids to Peppa Pig World on Friday and, because the in-laws wanted to buy gifts for the kids who they don't get to see very often, we spent a ton in the gift shop. I paid with my credit card (to avoid the in-laws' credit card charges) and was told that I get a free gift for spending over 30 quid - a free Daddy Pig cap. It was nice to get a gift but why Daddy Pig? We weren't allowed a Mummy Pig one, or a Grandpa Pig one or socks instead. Seemed a bit sexist to me! I earn a good wage, not as much as my husband but enough that I hold my head up high. My MIL earns more than my FIL and my mum started her own business while my dad was a salary man. Why can't we have free Mummy Pig caps as recognition that sometimes we pay the bill?

I'm guessing they have found that the Daddy Pig cap isn't selling as well, and that's why you get one free. The other two may sell better, so they aren't overstocked on those varieties.

I don't think it's anything to do with earning potential.

woowoo22 · 02/08/2015 13:02

Is this a joke?

BaguetteMaid · 02/08/2015 13:04

Wow you're reading a lot into this OP. There's probably a warehouse somewhere with a shit load of daddy pig caps that aren't selling. Simple as that.

TheHormonalHooker · 02/08/2015 13:04

WTF?!?! Hmm

I bet it's because they've got loads of Daddy Pig caps and want to get rid of a few!

Do you always over think things?

googoodolly · 02/08/2015 13:06

It'll be free because they have too many in stock!

wankerchief · 02/08/2015 13:06

Poor daddy pig. Mocked by his family and unpopular on headwear Sad

CharlieAustinsMagicHat · 02/08/2015 13:11

Surely it's the other way round, Mummy Pig is being recognised.

Intrinsic value is attached to Mummy Pig, you need to want Mummy Pig, spend money, make a decision! Whilst Daddy Pig is unwanted, free, destined for the back of the cupboard, unloved.

What would you prefer OP?

Spartans · 02/08/2015 13:32

Are you taking the piss?

It's free gift, which means they are trying to off load them.

And if you are objecting on sexist grounds, why would it matter if you could have socks instead.

You paid, so you keep the hat. The fact that it's hot daddy pig on it does not mean you can not wear it.

Oh and you don't need to earn a particular wage before you an hold your head up high.

WoonerismSpit · 02/08/2015 13:38

the fact that it's hot daddy pig on it

Phwoar, Daddy Pig! Grin

PinkFluffyUnicorns · 02/08/2015 13:39

I must be sleep deprived.
I read this as "free daddy pig" and was wondering what he needed to break free from and if there was a movement for him Blush

I'm off for a coffee or ten BrewSmile

eggyface · 02/08/2015 14:07

lol'd at both "Hot Daddy Pig" and "Free Daddy Pig!"

howabout · 02/08/2015 14:27

I was thinking "Free Daddy Pig" from the oppressive regime of being the butt of all Peppa's objectionable behaviour. This will never be a problem for me. Nothing would induce me to go to Peppa Pig World.

Waiting for the day Mr and Mrs Large come to town though.

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 02/08/2015 14:37

Wow! How the hell is this sexist or any reflection on your earning potential as a woman?! It's a free gift - likely, as others have said, because they have a surplus supply of them.

RachelRagged · 02/08/2015 15:15

Hot Daddy Pig Grin Grin

OP YABU . I wouldn't have given it a second thought personally.

avelinavalentina · 02/08/2015 15:17

You claiming this is sexist for having daddy pig not mommy pig, is like me claiming it is islamaphobic for not considering the muslims who may want a non pork themed gift.

YABU, and reaching.

msgrinch · 02/08/2015 16:35

Jesus, mumsnet is hysterical today. It's like an invasion of ridiculous.

GraysAnalogy · 02/08/2015 16:41

Oh shitting hell.

Kumiho · 02/08/2015 16:54

"I earn a good wage, not as much as my husband but enough that I hold my head up high."

I don't earn a wage, so I'll keep staring at the floor in shame then.

scatterthenuns · 02/08/2015 16:56

This is hilarious!

Rainicorn · 02/08/2015 16:58

I think you're overthinking things, just a little bit.

I was in the Disney store yesterday and as I spent over £10 on cheap tat I could buy a monster truck. I wanted something pink and princessy, but that wasn't the offer that day. And I don't work, sucked to be me yesterday.

Whiskwarrior · 02/08/2015 16:58

Really, they should be giving away free Mrs Rabbit hats.

She's the hardest working rabbit in the world.

Hang your head in shame, OP. You are nothing compared to her. Nothing.

AuntyMag10 · 02/08/2015 17:00

Don't be stupid. Sexist? Do you always see a problem with everything.

That is by far the most sexist thing I have ever heard of in my entire life!!

SaveOurBogBrushes · 02/08/2015 17:09

And this thread is one of the reasons people idiots take the piss out of feminism. YABU.
