AIBU?

To ask if you have an OFZR / 'bugout bag'?

As in a 'flee the house in under 2 minutes' bag?

After a random Google search recently I went down the rabbit hole and ended up five sites later at a bonkers American prepper site. I'm now feeling irresponsible for not having a zombie apocalypse bag at the ready.

I'm just not sure what you would put in such a bag. The preppers do seem to be getting ready for Armageddon but tbh they'll run out of baked beans at some point.

The worst we face here is severe weather in the winter so it makes sense to have some extra grub in but do you have a grab and flee bag?

What's OFZR stand for?
No I don't, but got really scared after watching a late-night documentary about preppers on Nat Geo or sth similar.

We have a bug out bag but we live in an earthquake zone. Also DH is hoping for a Zombie Apocalypse since he loves that stuff.

No - I have an OFZHouse instead. Not leaving it when the zombies arrive, will batten down the hatches and stay put :)

Assume ofzr is "oh fuck zombies rucksack".

Where would you flee to? If an event were to happen there is no point in going anywhere unless you know where to go, better to stay where you are initially and see what happens. A weapon (and the ability and guts to use it) would come in handy as would bolt croppers or a crowbar for the local supermarket.

I haven't, but I too have fallen down the rabbit hole more than once into those prepper sites!

I do have a Pinterest board devoted to it though Grin

We have one of these. It has clothes, toiletries and some food. It's to use in case we have to leave the house in a hurry, fire, flood, whatever.

Nah, I have plenty of wine though so would just batten down hatches

What are you actually prepping against though?

If it is fire or flood fair enough having important documents, spare medication in something easy to grab. If it is against a zombie attack then frankly I think we are all pretty fucked anyway and having your house insurance policy handy isn't really going to help.

My house is pretty secure, so as long as the hazelnut Dairy Milk is plentiful and the broadband' still on, I'll be sitting tight. If there's no internet, I'll let the zombies take me Blush

No I don't, but my kids have it all under control 'don't worry Ma, when the zombies come just listen to us and it'll be fine'. So I'm good.

I love the prepper sites!

Some actually say it is better to stay at home and have defenses.

I am now concerned I have a defeatist attitude to zombies. I think I need to watch the walking dead and develop a zombie attack plan.

I believe it's called an OFRS (oh fuck rucksack) on here... And no, I don't have one. Although sometimes I feel uneasy about that... Blush

Grin at defeatest attitude to zombies

Hmm, I've never met anyone in real like with an OFRS, I think you'd be better off dead in those kinds of situations. Plus; what ought one to put in it? Such a responsibility.

Hmmm, staying at home. It seems sensible but I keep remembering that bit in the film of World War Z where Brad Pitt does his little 'movement is life' speech and then the neighbours who stay get eaten Confused

Seriously though - I don't know what to prep against. I think that's the problem. We keep documents in a safe, which is fireproof so for fire / floods etc it would make more sense to just leave them there. Ditto for a tsunami as they are upstairs (we don't live in an earthquake / tsunami zone but we are close to the sea so I suppose that's our only natural peril.

I think I'm answering my own question here. Stock up on food for the winter and sod the bugout bag.

I am going nowhere...I shall barricade the driveway...we are in a walled garden. I have access to several axes, and very many sharp knives

I also have a very large freezer full of stuff

I am of course banking on slow zombies OR that my dodgy thryroid will enable me to fob off the faster WWz type. Otherwise I am done.

No i don't but i have also fallen into those prepper sites. There is something quite addictive about them and kinda leaves me with the feeling that i should be doing something... (Though no idea what that something would be). We live in a raised position, surrounded by open countryside so would see any zombies miles before they got to us... Plenty of time to grab our OFRS and go (or just hide under the bedcovers and cry)

We do have a "bugout" bag, actually 3.

Not a Zombie thing, but DD has significant medical issues and we live in an area that has a higher than national average number of severe weather issues (please don't judge, we are here due to DH's work).

Bag 1 is adults, 2 is kids and movable pets (dog and birds), 3 is specifically medical supplies and backup equipment for DD.

We learned last year we can get out in 4 minutes - neighbour's house burned.

However, for Zombies, we have a chainsaw and a couple crowbars, too Grin

No. People who do fascinate me though. I found myself on one of those sites once too and the amount of prep and supplies they had was jaw dropping.

Prepared for zombies though. I've watched Shaun of the Dead a few times.

Spare medication? I trust you are checking the expiration dates on it, especially prescription medication? Medication expires and will be no good to you in the event of emergency evacuation (fire/flood type event rather than zombies, obvs).
