to feel quite sorry for Walter Palmer?

Not very sorry what with him being a humungous twat for liking big game hunting, obviously. But seriously, worldwide opprobium and trial by media for partaking in a legal activity (he claims his permits were legit) that is a significant income stream for an impoverished third world country?

Also, while I'm at it, the death of a lion makes headlines? When did you last see a headline about the deaths of six million people in the civil war in the DRC?

YANBU that he is a humungous twat.

RepeatAdNauseum · 29/07/2015 08:45

He lured the lion out of his conservation area. That isn't legal, even if he has a legit permit.

It also took 40 hours for the lion to die, which I believe also contravenes the rules.

He has released a terrible statement blaming other people because it is now damaging his business. That is all. He didn't care before it started impacting on him personally.

So yes, YABU to feel sorry for him. He could have paid his money and hunted an allowed lion, staying within the rules - still a despicable thing to do. He chose to lure a magnificent, protected lion out so that he had the biggest lion head trophy. He deserves condemnation for that.

He may also be the catalyst for that "significant income stream" being stopped completely.

FineDamBeaver · 29/07/2015 08:48

The motivation to do these things completely eludes me. Just WHY? It's horrific. I actually think the media attention, in this instance, might be a good thing if only to warn other people that there may be consequences.

DoctorTwo · 29/07/2015 08:49

Feel as sorry as you like for a man who lured a lion from a reserve to shoot it with a fucking bow and arrow meaning it took the animal 40 hours to die. As for this being legal, according to the authorities he shot the lion at 10pm local time. Night time hunting is illegal, so his permit is not legit.

He's an entitled arsehole who deserves all the shit he gets, as does anybody who hunts to kill the inedible.

MokunMokun · 29/07/2015 08:49

He paid a ton of money to shoot an endangered animal in a cruel and barbaric way. Why on earth do you feel sorry for him?

PrimalLass · 29/07/2015 08:50

No. He was already on probation for illegal hunting. Arsewipe.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/07/2015 08:51

I don't feel sorry for him in the slightest. With any luck the opprobrium he's getting now will make others think twice before doing anything similar.

StitchingMoss · 29/07/2015 08:51

Don't believe for one second that he thought what he was doing was legal - don't think he gave a shit until it started to hurt him personally.

He's brought it all on himself. No sympathy.

DoreenLethal · 29/07/2015 08:53

I'd personally like to fire an arrow into him and watch him have a 40 hour death...but hey that's just me.

Anyone who gets up one day and thinks 'I know, I'm going to go all out to kill a lion today' needs taking into some sort of protected custody.

Complete cunt and deserves all the bad publicity he gets.

HoldYerWhist · 29/07/2015 08:53

What Repeat said.

He's vile and deserves all the condemnation he's getting and more.

CherryBonBon · 29/07/2015 08:53

YABU.

He's a vile cunt.

Petridish · 29/07/2015 08:54

He's a cunt and I'm shocked that anyone would feel sorry for him.

Biscuit

DorisLessingsCat · 29/07/2015 08:55

No, and he's caused the deaths of six cubs as well, as Cecil's cubs will be killed to encourage his lioness to mate with another lion.

I'd like to drill all his teeth out.

And then feed him to lions.

TwistInMySobriety · 29/07/2015 08:55

He lured the lion out of his conservation area

So the facts are all established 100% beyond all possible doubt then? good-oh. Good thing the media all waited until that was the case before reporting it then. Oh wait, no they didn't.

Rubylee87 · 29/07/2015 08:56

YABU. I don't feel sorry for anyone who gets criticized for barbarically murdering beautiful animals for fun.

MemphisBella · 29/07/2015 08:57

YABU.

I hope his business fails as a result of his actions. He deserves all the bad press he gets.

maresedotes · 29/07/2015 08:58

There's another thread on this subject. This is what I said.

I had some sympathy for him because he claimed he thought all the correct permits were in place (so this is legal in Zimbabwe) but he has previously illegally killed a bear. Also had a sexual harrassment claim against him so I don't have huge sympathy for him.

Plus I've just read about the cubs and that makes me sad.

TwistInMySobriety · 29/07/2015 08:58

What about the people who would lose their jobs as a result memphisbella? Do they deserve the impact of trial by media too?

OP posts:
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/07/2015 08:59

YABU. I have no sympathy for him whatsoever. My sympathy is with Cecil and his cubs who will probably now be killed by another lion moving in on the territory.

Palmer deserves everything that's happening to him and more.

TwistInMySobriety · 29/07/2015 08:59

Is there maresdotes? I did look but couldn't see one, sorry.

firesidechat · 29/07/2015 09:00

He got what he deserved and I was delighted to see on the news this morning that the majority of his neighbours feel equally disgusted with him.

I thought dentists had to be quite intelligent. Guess he's the exception.

Tootoofunny · 29/07/2015 09:00

Yup he's a cunt no sympathy, imagine how many schools he could have built or getting clean water etc etc his 75 grand could have done

Telegraph article here. It has pictures showing him posing with a dead leopard he shot in Zimbabwe five years ago and another next to a dead white rhino he shot in South Africa. He claims to have shot just about every large wild animal to be found in North America.

Killing an animal because you need food for yourself and your family - OK.

Killing an animal in self-defence - OK.

Killing an animal which is injured/ill and can't be healed - OK.

Killing an animal as part of a planned, legal cull when it's part of your paid job and you're trained to do it - OK.

Killing any animal for fun and so you can display its head/pelt in your home - in 2015, just plain weird.

Killing an animal which is part of a fragile ecosystem knowing/not caring that your actions endanger the whole system - beyond awful.
