AIBU?

to think that toy models of UK animals would sell

I thought it would be a quick job to source some woodland animals for a school project, but no. There are farm animals and jungle animals but no sets of British mammals - apart from those for model rail enthusiasts and they are a bit on the small side.

Does anyone know of a supplier, and would you buy them for your kids if they were available?

Try looking for doll house miniatures on Ebay - I've picked up rabbits, foxes and hedgehogs recently for DD on there.

ELC used to do some in a tin - fox, owl, rabbit, hedgehog plus one or 2 more. DD still has them.

One I offered her reception teacher to bring in all DD's 'hard' animals for a sorting and classifying thing. I think the teacher was somewhat surprised by the size and variety of the collection!

We used to have (probably still in the attic, actually) loads of ELC plastic animals. We seemed to have every species they made, including woodland animals - fox, badger, hedgehog, deer, owl, etc.

Don't ELC do them any more? Schleich are very nice but maybe a bit more expensive.

Schleich do nice plastic ones. Ostheimer do nice wooden ones...

Entertainer has loads here. Rabbits, foxes, badgers, owls definitely. They're not cheap though at a couple of pounds each for the smallest ones.

Britains don't make British wildlife models.

Thank you everyone. Schleich seems to be the best option. I had better luck when I searched for individual animals.
ELC have exotic wild animals and farm animals. Nice but not for now.

Maybe its time for a tots programme similar to the Animals of Farthing Wood. Has there been a wildlife based programme in recent years?
