To be going to a wedding evening do with a male friend?

I'm going to an evening wedding reception tonight with a good friend who is a gay guy leaving my DH at home with the kids. He's asked me to go as a favour as he has no partner and doesn't want to go alone. An ex of mine will also be there. My DH thinks it's really strange going with another man and doesn't want me to go...this was even before he found out my ex would be there... I think it's fine. Interested in people's views on this. Thanks!

It's completely fine!

My DH would be fine with it as he knows I've got male friends. Though I doubt we'd ever get into this situation as none of them are likely to be dateless!

Oh. And I think it's fine too!

I think it's fine too, one of my best friends is a gay man and I'd definitely go with him to a wedding if he asked. I can't imagine my DP would think it was odd at all.

Of course it's fine. My DP would be fine with me going even if the friend wasn't gay.

Well I think it's fine too.

Out of interest, What would be his opinion if a female friend had asked to to accompany her ?

I also think it's fine but him being at home with the children is enabling you to go so it is reasonable to at least listen to his concerns. Why doesn't he want you to go?

Would you be ok if he went to a wedding with a female friend maybe I'm strange but I think that would bother me a little

Of course it's fine. I go out with male friends quite a few times - not all of them are gay. DH is perfectly fine with it. And vice versa.

He can't really give a specific reason...he just says it's odd because I'm his wife. It's just jealousy I guess. Doesn't like to think of me 'on the arm' of someone else so to speak. He doesn't have any single female friends so I don't know how I'd feel if he did the same. I guess I wouldn't be that comfortable if she was straight and I thought she had designs on him but only then. This is an old old childhood friend who's gay and I wouldn't mind if the situation was reversed...

I'd ask him why he thinks it's odd. What's actually bothering him? Has he been watching too much Hollyoaks and does he think gay men randomly get into relationships with women? Does he wonder what people will think? Does he not want to be at home with the kids?

Personally I think it's fine but I would probably ask for a further explanation from him.

When I was in my early 20s I arranged to meet a friend of mine in a pub one evening. My dad's response, on hearing which pub I was going to, was "they don't do lunches there". My mum and I were puzzled by this, as I wasn't meeting friend until 8pm so lunch seemed to be an irrelevance. When pushed, my dad said that pubs that don't do lunches attract a certain kind of young man. Sometimes people have odd reasons for objecting to stuff. (Yes, my dad was weirdly overprotective).

He must think you're so stunning that you could 'turn' any gay man straight.

Personally I wouldn't think anything of it either going or if DH went to a wedding with one of his female friends.
