AIBU?

To be really irritated when someone insists that the Bra Guru method of measuring is wrong?

On another forum a lady is insisting on adding inches to her band measurement and advises others to do so.

She measures 33 and wears a 36. Says that a 32 or 34 cuts into her but this this must be because she's wearing too small a cup if she's adding inches to her band measurement.

Head desk.

I know. My friends look at me like I've got two heads when I say I'm 28FF because my boobs are not big at all but I tell them the cup size is in relation to the back size so it's the same as a 34B for example.
One of my friends who is slimmer than me tells me she is 32 back size. I tell her she can't be, she must be 26/28 if she actually measured under her bust.

QuiteLikely on that basis, it's quite likely that you're wearing the wrong size bra. Come back when you're sober and bring a tape measure :-)

It annoys me too, it's part of the reason it's hard to find bras in a wider range of sizes

quite likely me too Grin
And I'm ranting to DH about the news ( but I won't go into that here!)

It grates me like mad. I had one person tell me I'm wrong and M&S is always right. WTAF?

Do you find it hard to find your correct bra size? Measuring the correct way I'm a 30D but I can rarely get this size in a shop. With the adding inches method I'm a 34 and there are so many bras in this size.

Well my M&S/Bravissimo/BraGuru measurements are all the same so how does that work!

I only buy my bras from Bravissimo, occasionally a couple of online shops. Can't get them anywhere else and not as good quality

Ive become really fed up with boobs and bras tbh. Ive done the MN intervention method 4 times and each time measures me as either 30F or 32E. So ive been buying loads of bras off ebay (BNWT) in a mix of 30E, 32E, 30F and 32F and i just cannot get a comfortable fit. Some of them are really sore round my ribs leaving raw marks and some too loose in band and cup. Ive actually just started wearing those soft, seamless, wireless, sports bra but not really type bras as they are the only thing thats comfortable anymore. Not sure if there is any support in them though.

YANBU. It's alarming that so many shops do hardly anything in a band size less than 32", too. I'm a 32G (probably more a 32GG, at the moment, but I've not bought any new bras because I'm blown if I'm keeping this extra weight) and I'm quite fat.

I tried to evangelise to my mum and she looked at me like I had 2 heads. I have made some successful conversions, though.

I only have Bravissimo ones too. Can't get 28 back in most places. Spent £100 on 3 bras but I hand wash them so hopefully they'll last for ages. I've seen another one I want now but will wait a bit longer to get it.

surly have you been into Bravissimo? I say I'm a 28FF but one of my bras is 28F as the fitter said that style gaped a bit in FF. It really is worth going to be fitted and you can try on loads and the fitter will look at every bra you try and see if it fits properly.

Surly - you'd be better off ordering from somewhere with a good returns policy, in lots of styles so you can keep returning until you find something right. When you've found The One, then the cheap ones off ebay will be a better investment. The shape of the underwires varies a lot between brands and even styles within a brand.

Ah, I always though D was big boobs because of the adding inches to back size method. I'm so happy to be a D now :)

surly have you been into Bravissimo?

No i am very rarely in town but should make a point of going and getting properly measured.

I'm amazed that so many shops don't seem to stock smaller than a 32. In m&s I find lots of my size in the sale - probably because they're telling people they're four inches bigger than they are.

I was told I'm now a 32C in M&S- despite having been 30D for years and now smaller than I was pre-DC. I bought the damn bras in that size and, after a week or so of getting a bit irritated that my bra was raiding up over my breasts when I lifted my arms, decided to have a go at measuring myself at home using the bra intervention advice - I'm still 30D.

BonnieNoClyde · 20/06/2015 22:34

i've wasted money buying bras that i've measured myself for and they are too loose.
