AIBU?

to think that the 'Indescribably-awful' is now a very appropriate label for The Independent

Description used by Private Eye, but in the context of sub-tabloid nonsense like this, more relevant than ever:

www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/texas-pastor-rick-scarborough-is-willing-to-be-burned-to-death-to-oppose-gay-marriage-10333602.html

Headline: "Texas pastor Rick Scarborough is willing to be burned to death to oppose gay marriage"

Actual quote 'We are not going to bow,
we are not going to bend,
and if necessary we will burn."'

Is the journalist really that thick that they think Mr. Scarborough (idiot though he might be) is literally not going to bow, literally not going to bend, and literally going to set himself on fire.

And this is not the first such nonsense either. A few months ago they cooked up a completely false story about the UK banning certain types of porn.

Utterly dreadful paper.

I hate it when newspapers do this, it's appealing to the lowest common denominator - the type of person who won't read something unless it has a sensational headline. I don't read newspapers so much anymore because they all do this.

CamelHump the 'burned to death' headline is NOT a quote. You might as well say that Enoch Powell wanted to pump blood into the Tiber

I've stopped following them on twitter as their stories are awful, utter click bait.
