I am more angry than I should be to see someone on my Facebook say that their fringe is covering 6/8 of their face!

AIBU if I comment '3/4! It's three effing quarters!!!!!'?

You are not supposed to mock those less fortunate than yourself!
It's not their fault they don't understand fractions.
Ds did that kind of maths in y4. Earlier at home, as he loves maths.
Just wait, soon it will cover 10 tenths of their face.

Who in their right mind says"6/8" about anything? Madness, I tell you.

YANBU. Pray that it's a typo.

YANBU

Why? Why?

Unless of course, she is a musician. 6/8 is very different to 3/4 time.

Ltb. I dunno slightly drunk and sleepy

CharityBarnum · 18/06/2015 00:47

Is she a musician?

I am, and can see that I might use 6/8 instead of 3/4 to describe my hair without actually meaning to be a wanker Blush

Bad fraction. Bad bad fraction.

Tell her, "if
You save your fringe any longer, it will be 12/16 before you know it"

Report
CharityBarnum · 18/06/2015 01:20

But it isn't a bad fraction for hair. 4/8, well yes, that isn't a standard time signature in written music as opposed to 2/4 (march)

I think she was describing her fringe on terms of two groups of triple quavers instead of three crochets.

6/8 is a perfectly respectable fraction. 3/4 is just a simplified version. I guess you are a simpler person.

I'm quite surprised that someone would think that nobody in their right mind would ever use 6/8.

Oi, Mozart and Beethoven, you ignorant fuckers, sort your time signatures aaaaaat!

It's not much worse than saying 10%, for example. Why not simply say 1/10?

Or 50% instead of 1/2 or half.

I shall refrain from passing comment; knowing I am NBU has had a calming effect Grin

Not sure if she is a musician - I don't think so but I'd say there's a 4/20 chance.

In what way is it a bad fraction? Surely they're all equivalent. Do any of you ever say 50%

PurpleSwift · 18/06/2015 08:26

So you're frustrated someone isn't as good at fractions as you Hmm

Is it actually a fringe if it's that long?

Report
TheDuchessofBoxford · 18/06/2015 08:45

Of course this is lighthearted and I recognise I am being a pedant!

WixingMords - I think 6/8 is a gross exaggeration based on the photo that was supplied! It takes up 11/33 at most!

It's well know that 5 out of every 3 people don't understand fractions.
