AIBU?

To ask how many of you have actually vomited with a stomach bug/norovirus?

I have had countless stomach viruses over the course of my life. I've known they were stomach viruses because everyone around me also has them. The symptoms have always been diarrhea, stomach cramps, temperature, feeling like utter shit, nausea but no vomiting.

My DH, my father, my BIL and my FIL are the same (we've gone down with it as a family before.)

I heard it's something to do with being a secretor or a non secretor (don't ask me what that is) but if you are a non secretor, you are apparently more likely to have blood type B or AB which gives you increased resistance to norovirus. And if you do get it, less severe symptoms.

What are your experiences?

I'm type A and I vomited like something out of a horror film with norovirus. What I would say is it's different to a normal stomach virus. I have rarely felt so ill. So I'm not sure you can equate them for the purpose of this enquiry.

Type O blood. I puke when I get a stomach bug.

I'm interested in whether blood type affects things. And I thought it would be a good place to ask, as I could hardly do a scientific study!

Also I puke a lot, not just when I have a virus. Travel sick, nerves sick, hangover the lot. But my blood is v common so sure it doesn't mean anything Grin

All four of us type A - DH and DS tend to be very ill with stomach bugs if they get them, DD has never been sick in her life, and I'm in between. I have read that some blood types are more protective, on average, but I imagine other factors tend to outweigh that in individuals (as is the case in my family).

I tend to be sick a lot for things like being in the early stages of pregnancy. But not much sickness at other times. Am blood group B+

I'm A neg, I have vomited with bugs but have also just had it the other end, I rarely vomit as it terafies me, when I do it's usually once or twice ( never all night ).

I puke like Rave and in addition I'm a sympathetic vomiter which means if I see anyone vomit, I'll join in Grin

I think I'm O plus

I'm A+ and rarely puke. I have puked with a bug once or twice, but it's very rare. I hate puking and fight it all the way, if that's relevant.

O+ but very rare sick. It really takes a lot! Norovirus managed it but only for a day each time. The diarrhoea and feeling like death lasted a fortnight.

Twice now.

I'm B+ and very rarely vomit...but if I do, WATCH OUT WORLD...It will come out of every facial orifice simultaneously and in copious quantities.

If I get stomach bugs hey tend to go "downwards" rather than upwards.

I've got a stomach bug now, I've felt sick all day and had severe stomach cramps but haven't vomited. I rarely vomit, I'm A+.

Thats interesting because i am a B+ and very rarely get stomach viruses that lead yo vomiting and my dc are the same but I dont know their blood type. The whole class can be going down with it and my dc were fine.

O+ and very rarely vomit. Even when I do, it's once or twice. The last time was 2012; the time before 2007.

I do get cramps, chills, nausea, fatigue and sometimes diarrhoea once or twice a year usually, which I presume are milder stomach bugs. These tend to last 3 or 4 days.

I'm O+ and I'm a vomiter when I have a stomach bug. I've only had diarrhoea with a stomach bug once. I don't often get ill though

A+ here and yes, vomited extremely copiously with norovirus.

Report
bemorecat · 14/06/2015 18:57

AB and I puked with noro, so much I pulled muscles in my chest and back. We managed to catch it 3 times in abouteight weeks due to the virus mutating and dc's school not cleaning deeply enough!

A- and with general vomiting bug I'm normally not too bad. I'm more prone to having diarrhoea than to vomit. I can only really remember once having a bad norovirus and it was horrible. However, once I was passed the initial vomiting stage then it was stomach cramps and then the other end.

So, I guess I would say that I would agree with your statement about blood types

Report
ragged · 14/06/2015 18:59

I'm AB+. I vomit a lot due to bugs or morning sickness. (shudder).

DH (O-) very seldom gets bugs but easily pukes if he drinks too much. (pursed lips emoticon)

Secretors / non-secretors. I think that says that blood types O & B are more likely to be non-secretors (?not what OP said) and have the resistance OP said to norovirus. I fit secretor profile strongly.

B+ and vomit with noro and morning sickness.
