Ds left school for gap year .
He is saving to travel a bit .
He has two jobs one sat am and one a zero contract hrs and is Eve shift s only . One shift a week is common .
I'm finding it hard that on my day off he is here most of the time !! I feel a bit clausterphobic ! He's a lovely young man who greeted me with enthusiasm on my retun from work y day ! It's just ive been used to some time i the house by myself and struggling to adjust . He will be out n about more when summer hols start for good .
Also I'm feeling hemmed in dc are 18 and 16 and don't want to come on Hol with us now but it doesn't feel right to leave 16 to d d yet . No family around .

So I'm feeling grounded and surounded !!!! And a trifle grumpy .
Feel I'm b u and Wd appriciAte soothing words of wisdom !

If the soothing wisdom involves new clothes and a haircut you've come to the right place Grin

Ah the joys of the teenage years! I work part time and revel in having the house to myself usually. But recently i have had DD1 (22) and her boyfriend us DD2 (17) around a lot. The house is messier and noisier and i don't get my peace and quiet. But it is lots of fun and i feel privileged that they quite like hanging about with an old gimme like me. DD1 is about to move away for her first job and i feel a bit sad that it will probably be Christmas before she is home again.

As for the holiday business - my DD2 said she wasn't coming on holiday with us this year and i was unsure about how i felt leaving her alone while we gallivanted off. But then we said where we fancied going and all of a sudden she was interested and plans to join us! Maybe you need to say are going somewhere your DD would also like to go? Or see if she could bring a friend with you and get a villa somewhere?

It's so hard for teens to get jobs nowadays. Is he still actively looking? are you close to farms who require fruit pickers? Any family or friends he could do odd jobs for? Failing that, keep him busy at home and send him to the shops if you want him out from under your feet for a while!

16 and 18 year olds should be ok on their own if you want to get away for a weekend or short break. Set very strict ground rules and see how they get on. It will do them good to be self sufficient for a few days.

Poor love sounds bored and a bit lonely. Could he try volunteering?

I appreciate what you say about needing your space - my teen is now off school until September having just finished his GCSEs and I'm used to being on my own mostly (I work from home).

Just played a game of catch in garden ! Yes he's bored but when I suggest I take him out for a meal doesn't want to . He has a zero contract eve job n his pals seem to be at work in day . He got invited to 2 BBQ s t day for this eve but can't as working . I'm sure it will all pan out I just need to adjust ! And do bits of things with him . Went to shops bought ice cream which raised a smile .
