AIBU?

To be disconcerted by getting sick this quickly?!

Woke up this morning feeling a bit crap, by DS bedtime had a slight headache. Over the hour and a half I have spent getting wrestling him to sleep, the headache has quadrupled, every part of me aches, glands in my neck feel like boiled eggs and I have a raging sore throat. And I cannot stop shivering Confused. Even the thought of getting up for painkillers is torturous. WIBU to continue to lie shivering under our duvet distracting myself with mumsnet until DP gets in off his late shift and rescues me? Apart from anything else I don't want to move DS to his own bed as if he wakes up in the process I may actually collapse.

Also wtf is wrong with me?!?

Also, in case you hadn't gathered, please pity meeeeeee! Sad

No screens for most of today has helped my head and eyes. I've still got no voice. I slept til lunchtime after taking the kids to school, but have been much better since eating a proper meal this evening.

Hope you feel bettervsoon

It definitely sounds viral. I would try to make the effort to get downstairs to get some painkillers and a glass of water.

I doubt this will be any consolation, but the glands in your neck are a good sign of a strong immune response (it still might take a couple of days though).

You certainly have my sympathy Brew

Oh you poor love. That's awful. Is there anything we can do for you, apart from lavishing well deserved pity on you.

Heatstroke? Been out in the sun without a hat? Not drunk enough water? I suffer in the heat like this if I don't take care. Hope you feel well soon?

You poor thing OP.

If whatever this is doesn't respond in a few days to painkillers/strepsils please please please go and see your doctor. Two years ago I was ill with the most awful fly like illness with a throat so sore I could barely swallow a trickle of water but stupidly took advice to 'woman up' and didn't see my GP. By the time DH dragged me to the surgery and I was given antibiotics for what was a severe strep throat infection, it was too late and I develiped rheumatic fever and was really ill for about 6 months.

Painkillers, lots of fluids, rest and Dr if you're not better by Sunday.

Argh! Not tonsillitis!! I used to get recurrent tonsillitis but thought I'd 'grown out of it'... It invariably used to mean a week to 10 days out of action. I'm meant to be working tomorrow, and have a wedding dress fitting on Sunday, and DP is on lates and nights for the next four days and DS still 'needs' feeding every two sodding hours all night.

Sad

Thank you all for the Wine and Brew and Cake and Flowers though. Even if I do feel like attempting to get anything down my throat would result in instant vomiting...

Glandular Fever. Sorry. It sounds just like when I had it.

Captain alas I wish it was that simple. Sadly I've been confined to barracks today... And Shock Welsh that sounds awful! My DP is also of the 'woman up' school of bedside manners. I may use you as a cautionary tale!

Grumpy that is actually some consolation... And thank you to everyone for the sympathy!

Sounds like a bacterial infection is reeking havoc somewhere. Watch out for any inflammation and tenderness and keep dosed up on paracetamol and ibuprofen. Take your temperature if it stays high after dosing up seek medical attention.

DS woke up. I nearly fainted trying to pick him up . DP has been summoned home and I feel like my head might explode Envy

What's your temperature? Is it worth calling 111 for some advice or do you reckon it's just flu?

Might be worth calling NHS direct, a friend of mine (in her 30's) had a really bad headache and stiff neck and it was meningitis (not the scepticemia one).

When I get tonsillitis is come on in a matter of hours. Last time I went out for dinner with friends at 6pm and felt fine. Returned at 9.30pm with headache, neck ache, sore throat etc and took myself off to bed. By midnight I was delirious with fever and was completely out of it for the the whole next day.
Sadly it does sound like tonsillitis Sad
