to buy prescription glasses off the internet?

This is something I've never really considered due to lack of aftercare, possible quality issues, etc. I had seen frames I like for £190 (inc. lenses) in a Vision Express store - this didn't seem too expensive as I've certainly paid more for complete glasses in the past. I had a quick Google and found a few online companies selling the same glasses for £70-£80. That's a big effing difference! I now feel like I would be a bit of a mug to pay the instore price.

Has anyone bought complete glasses online and would you do it again?

I've done it twice, with two different companies and would highly recommend it. I won't buy on the high street again.

I have been doing that for years. Glasses direct usually. I can get two pairs, one of sunglasses, for less than £50 as usually they have a buy one get one free offer.

I've done it several times now. I wondered at first whether I was doing the right thing, so ordered some quite cheap glasses as a sort of test- they were great! I've not considered getting glasses from a high st shop since. I went to glasses direct.

My Dh recently got his first ever pair of glasses and bought them at a high price from a major high st chain, and they don't really fit that well.

I'd go for it OP!

Vision express are expensive. Try spec savers. I recently got sunglasses with thin lenses for 1/3 the price of vision express.

My husband had bought glasses online with no issues. Most don't go up to the strength of my prescription or I would consider it too. I am -12.

SLightly different, but I've just started buying contact lenses from the internet after my optician couldn't offer me an appointment for bloody ages and refused to give me a pair to tide me over!

I still go for eye health examinations and eye tests but now just buy online if my prescription is the same.

Glasses direct are brilliant and I've used them several times. They will send you frames to try on at home if you're not sure about styles.

first no reputable supplier will sell you lenses if your prescription is more than a year old. And you need an annual contact lens and eye health check.

Which is every 2 years... It's possible contact lens wearers may want one more frequently, but the questsion is about glasses.

the question is about glasses but first is talking about contact lenses, where you do need a yearly check.

for specs it is indeed 2 years, and as an optician told me 'no-one ever damaged their eyes with specs'. The worst you can do with specs is not see properly.

I use specs post, plenty of codes kicking around. The glasses I currently have (supposed to wear for reading but in reality are 'at the bottom of my handbag glasses') cost £15. For that price they can happily float around my bag.

Can confirm, awesome experience with Glasses Direct. They have a good returns policy if you need it and me and DP bought two pairs each, total was around £200 for very stylish frames. Had our eye tests at Specsavers then just entered the details on the website when we got home, I didn't like any of the cheap pairs and the expensive pairs were really bland - I like wearing colourful frames so I bought a purple and a green pair.

Disclaimer - We're only short sighted to a 'regular' degree, GD have a policy about not selling strong or unusual prescriptions or if your eyes are an unusual shape.

I get mine online, goggles4u I think is the site. Never had any problems, when I get my eyes tested I get new pairs for so much less than I had been paying.

I have used SelectSpecs for years. They were recommended on the Martin Lewis website. My original -3.5 glasses cost me £6 inc delivery! They have anti reflective and anti scratch coating as well.
Same glasses now about £9 but such good value. They do the whole spectrum of cheap to designer as well as sun glasses. For a tenner it is worth a shot!

Another very satisfied Glasses Direct customer here, they're brilliant. Really cheap, staff lovely and you can try 4 pairs at home before you buy so you can get a style you really like. I'll never buy from an opticians again.

I've used online glasses companies a quite a few times and never had a problem. I think they might not be a good option if you have a tricky or strong prescription though. I've used them when they have had specials on and got prescription glasses for as little £20 or £30 - they've been great.

The online companies I use allow you to try out the frames beforehand for no cost but I haven't bothered doing that. They send you a box of four frames that you think you might like and then you send them back once you have chosen the ones you like.

Asda Opticiens are now doing very cheap glasses and you can get bifocals for the same cost as normal lenses which is an amazingly good bargain.

Asia has plenty of glasses for £70 and do a two pairs for £100. Thus INCLUDES the lenses.

The exact same frame costs £270 in boots. I couldn't believe the difference so I went back and double checked and they were the exact same make and model as the ones in Asda - I can't remember if they were £70 or £90 in Asda but even if they were in the £90 range that's still a hell of a difference.

My glasses kept falling off RE entry, I popped into vision express and they adjusted them for me for free! Even though I was totally honest about where I got them from!
