AIBU?

To be surprised by Pret a Manger

So I kinda like this chain, tasty fresh food, fast in-&-out, but heard the hype about the " free drink" thing, but as neither blonde nor twenty, not something I would expect.
So I am in the High Holborn branch getting "superfood" salad & fruit (yeah, I know, I know) and blurted to the nice Italian server that I just got out of court with my ex- husband & got offered a free drink -took a cappuccino.
A little less cynical tonight.

why is this in aibu ???

MackerelOfFact · 27/05/2015 23:13

It was in that very branch of Pret where I accidentally said to the guy serving me "thanks, I love you, bye!" instead "thank you, that's lovely, bye!" Blush

And I STILL didn't get a free drink.

YANBU anyway.

TeenageMutantNinjaTurtle · 27/05/2015 23:16

I thought it was all a myth until I got a free drink last week for telling the chap behind the counter a cheese joke he'd never heard before....

Snowflake15 · 27/05/2015 23:18

I'm 22 and blonde and never got a free drink, so don't think that tactic works either Angry

AnyoneForTennis · 27/05/2015 23:33

I've never even been in one!

CuttedUpPear · 27/05/2015 23:37

Surely this is chat not AIBU.
Or do you need your thread to stay around forever?

Moanranger · 27/05/2015 23:37

MrsFuzzy The complete sentence would be Am I Being Unreasonable to be surprised by Pret a Manger - is why it's here.

That's nice Smile

SeenSheen · 27/05/2015 23:54

Sorry Yabu, I don't understand the post really!

AnyoneForTennis · 28/05/2015 00:00

Yanbu!

Raffertys · 28/05/2015 06:55

The only time I've ever been given anything for free in Pret is when I fell arse over tit in there.

Chunkymonkey79 · 28/05/2015 07:07

That's nice OPSmile

Why do people care which board it's on?! Confused

SoupDragon · 28/05/2015 07:12

I think people care because everyone shoves everything in AIBU when there really isn't a question of bing unreasonable or not. In this case, it's a silk char thread about how Pret made the OP feel good. There really isn't any kind question of reasonableness at all.

Personally I tend to ignore it. The self appointed Tread Police feel the need to comment.

Apophenia · 28/05/2015 07:16

I think I need to hear the cheese joke. Grin

FarFromAnyRoad · 28/05/2015 07:21

I don't really understand - are you saying that you can get a free drink in Pret by being a grinning joke telling chimp? That's me forever paying for coffee then!

Purplepumpkins · 28/05/2015 07:27

A couple of weeks ago I was in pret with my baby I care for. And I was buying a coffee and a sandwich and the baby was smiling away being cute and the server said the coffee is on the house, I was confused so I tweeted pret to say how nice the server was giving me a free latte and they explained that the servers can give away freebies to anyone who is being particularly friendly, kind etc or yes I guess if they find them attractive or if they are a regular customer. but it's in no way sexist as when I'm working as a nanny I wear plain gap clothes and no make up and had a baby with me! It made me smile and I will defo be using pret again.

AuntyMag10 · 28/05/2015 07:34

You're clearly wrong if you think you have to be blue eyed and blonde. It's more to do with being a regular.
And yabu to try twist this into an aibu when it's not.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 28/05/2015 07:39

When my dsis was leaving her job, she went to her usual pret and they comped her whole lunch. She is a long way off 22 or blond.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 28/05/2015 07:43

It's too expensive to be a regular thing for me. After I have the twins I'll have to go in looking shattered and hope for a sympathy freebie

BatonRouge · 28/05/2015 07:46

Interesting thread - happened to be given a 'free lunch' a few months back. Thought I was in there!! Now more likely that I visit every single day for those cheesy tomato croissant thingies.

Thread police Grin

I'm just not sure why anybody would be bothered enough to remark on it. And the OP did ask if she was being unreasonable Grin
