AIBU?

AIBU to call our baby.....?

Having trouble picking a name for upcoming baby. I really like Obi Wren (instead of Wan), but I don't think it's fair to lumber the child with a silly Star Wars name, even though I think it's dead cute. Obviously, dh loves it and 100% wants to go with it.
AIBU to call a baby Obi?

Argh OP are you insane!? Don't discuss baby names with anyone but your DH! Just name your baby when they arrive and be done with it!

Although it is good you are thinking of the set backs giving your child this name may cause for the child (star wars ref). I think it sounds nice, I would assume you are big Star Wars fans.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Can't say the name as its identifiable but my friend named her daughter after a star wars character but it was middle name + surname - it's cool Grin

Obi is actually a really popular name in parts of Africa.

I don't really like it as it doesn't make much sense, wren is a nice name but obi wren is very obviously inspired by Star Wars, do you want to name your child after a Star Wars carachter?

I wanted to name my son after commissioner Gordon from batman but decided against it in the end.

Sounds like a great name.

I agree it's not fair, and I live unusual names.

Is it a girl or a boy? Wren is a girl's name and Obi sounds like a boy's name.

If you really want to use Obi, how about a name you can get Obi as NN out of?

Oberon? Robert? Robbie?

Or how about Obi as a middle name with something less Star-wars as a first name?

You could still call him Obi.

I know an Obie and a Wren. They are different sexes - what with Obie being a boy name and Wren a girl name.

Unusual but fine alone, awful together.

My sons (R2D2 and C3PO) have never had any issues.

TBH I really like obi. Not sure about wren for a boy but base this I don't know what.

Now I read back I don't know if you mean for a boy or girl.

wigglylines · 26/05/2015 08:09

Or Obi as a first name without Wren as a middle name as others suggest.

Girl, boy, or either/unisex/don't know yet? I think it's cute but yyy! to having"Obi" short for something. Obidiah? I can't think of any girls names for obi, but what about Odie (short for Odele or Odette)?

We're not sure if it's a girl or boy yet, although I'm convinced it's another boy. I didn't realise Wren was a girl's name but I really like it for a boy. I'm surprised by the positive replies and now think it might be ok!!

I think it's a sweet name.

My DD is named after a comic book character (keeping it vague). I know a lot of geeks so unusual names are normal in my circle of friends. We have Star Wars, X-men, a Norse god and a few computer game characters thrown in for good measure.
