AIBU?

Is it more considerate to tell guests that you have a vile cold?

I never know the right thing to do in these situations! We're having friends over tomorrow for some food and drinks. I have a vile cold am at that constantly sneezing, using masses of tissues phase. Is it rude to text them ahead of time to tell them I have a cold or does that make it sound like we don't want to see them?!

Sorry, that's really badly written! Meant to say I'm at that constantly sneezing stage!

I normally do, more especially if people are coming with kids or are pregnant or something. More often than not people are fine with it but at least you've told them. I'd precede it with 'feeling ok and still really want to see you but just to warn you.....' Or something

I would want to know. My dad's partner has leukaemia and we are all trying to avoid passing anything on to her.

If I've been in contact with a cold, I'd have to avoid her and my dad until we were sure we hadn't got it.

Hope you're better soon. That drippy nose thing is awful!

I'd rather know... particularly as it's a holiday week and I wouldn't fancy snotting everywhere throughout the half-term. As long as you make it clear that you're really happy to rearrange so they know you still want to see them.

And if I was at the masses of tissue stage of a cold, I really wouldn't want to be preparing food, and then have to be sociable anyway. Much nicer to curl up with lemon and honey and whiskey on the sofa and watch netflix.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Thank you! Yes I think you're right. I will warn them both.

The thing is jeeee I really would rather snuggle up but we've all had to cancel several times (various things with kids, illness etc) so I feel we'll never see each other at this rate!

I would want to know. I hate being ill and would resent it if you gave me your stinking cold (sorry).

I'd definitely want to know. It really pisses me off when we see people and they've not told us beforehand that they're unwell. i don't want to get sick!

Definitely let them know. Again we have family members for whom a cold could turn fatal and would be very grateful to be forewarned

This.

I know quite a few people who are immunocompromised for various reasons, and it really concerns/irritates me as to how many people just don't think about this sort of thing being an issue. Good for you for thinking of it OP.

Thanks all. Ironically one of the guests is under the weather too so we will postpone!
