my DH has just told me that I as a SAHM have 30 hours a week to do what I want with while the DC are at school. I am outraged no one has seen fit to tell me of this important fact. AIBU?

Yabu. I love my hours off.

You should actually do what you want for 30 hours a week.

You might like it.

Suggest you take your 30hours holiday next week and DH will see what you usually do in that time?

Tell him to take a week off for holiday cover and bugger off somewhere

I do the laundry, the house, the groceries, family errands, treat my health (I am SAHM due to illness) and the allotment. I also paint (that's my holiday I guess)

Why have you name changed in just five minutes?

If your DC are at school, you do have a lot of time during the day when presumably you can do as you please?

Though an allotment takes up a lot of time, that is true.

I have to be honest, if I had school age children I'd be a little lost in the day. It takes me about a 90 minutes to clean the whole house and do laundry. Then I'd watch Jeremy Kyle GrinWink, maybe take a nap, do some online shopping and browse Facebook through out...

on a serious note, I'm incensed because what I do clearly isn't as valuable as his work. I know this is an old chestnut but I'm a relatively new member of the SAHM league and not au fait with the sheer mindlessness of some people's attitudes.

You get time to enjoy your hobby of painting. And MNing time Wink .
So you do have time to yourself.

Feck - for some reason your op had feck and the later posts had Feck so you aren't highlighted as op.

Your op has a lower case f. Thus your subsequent posts aren't highlighted as it is recognised as a different name.

maybe its just me...my illness makes me slow and tired so doing the laundry eg hanging the washing out will take me ages. yes, I have some time to myself but Im normally using that to recoup energy for when DC head home. AIBU to want DH to understand im not lounging around eating Turkish delight all the time?

As a sahm, I do have sympathy with you in feeling our value isn't noted. Mind, sometimes I think we're our own worst enemy - no one else actually asks me to justify what I do, though I constantly need to justify it to myself.
I get over this, mind, as I do pretty much have a holiday when the dc are at school. And I love it.,
