AIBU?

Redundant

I'm heading into the office this morning for my last day. They'll hand me a letter saying I'm redundant and that will be that. I've posted on here already this week that I already have another job so in that respect I'm ok. But emotionally I'm in bits. I can't bear that I will never see some of them again. I've worked with a few for 17 years. At the same time I would merrily stab my idiot of a boss with a pencil. I'm just a turmoil of emotion. And I am so worried I'm just going to sob all over everyone. AIBU to just wish I'd stayed at home? Everyone said I'd regret it if I didn't go in to say goodbye.

You will be upset but you will feel better for spending some time with the lovely colleagues and friends from the last 17 years. You can support each other.

It's a really strange feeling! I was made redudant while on maternity leave, so I already felt quite removed from the process- for good and bad.

I hope you have a good day in the end- it's definitely a good thing to go in.

Are they leaving too? If not they would be disappointed not to see you. It would be normal to be emotional. Could you not meet up socially in the future? Good luck with the new jobx

Your feelings are perfectly understandable. It can feel like a very impersonal process.

I was also made redundant not so long ago and although I wasn't in the office for long on my last day I'm glad I had the opportunity to say goodbye to people I'd known for years. A couple of them stayed in touch.

Is there a friend you can spend some time with, or talk to on the phone, after you've left?

I was made redundant 2 weeks ago after 10 years full time work. I had the option to work from home in my job so when i was told i was being made redundant I went in one evening and cleared my desk and spent the rest of the time working from home.

I only told a few people and on the final day when i got my official letter and had to hand my laptop in I though it would be in bits but i wasnt. I guess i had already emotionally detached from the place. I had said goodbye earlier to the people i wanted to.

i was offered another role in the company but i didnt take it, i took the redundancy so i felt i was leaving because i wanted to and not because they made me.
