AIBU?

To hate just about all forms of exercise

On my way to the gym.

Dreading it. Hate getting sweaty. Hate puffing and panting. Hate the aches and pains.

Apparently this is wrong and I should love it and it will lift my mood and make me happy and glowy.

Aibu. I just this is wrong and HATE it!

No, so do I.

Also that lift you get after you have exercised, I have NEVER experienced it, think its missing from my DNA.

I exercise regularly and usually enjoy it, I never even been in a gym. Not even once!

I would hate the gym too. I've never liked gyms.

I'm a runner but I'm aware that's not for everyone either. I've just been out and run 13 miles in the sunshine, listening to the sounds of the sea and people watching.

That's got to be better than the gym any day.

My point is that gyms are dull, lots of people hate them. Being outside is more stimulating generally and more enjoyable. Whether it be walking, running, cycling.

YANBU but YABU OP
I used to hate all forms of exercise and kept waiting for the buzz.
But agree with doyouthinkhesaurus above - don't go to the gym, it's dull as....
I have recently started going to an hourly circuits class.
GRIM and muscles are broken the next day but YOU DO GET THE ENDOPRHINS that you've done it! Straight away and it's amazeballs.
VERY interestingly went to the indoor version as was away for the outdoor one and it was HELL - I spent the whole hour looking at the clock - outside -was not the case. SO def agree outdoor is the way forward.

HATE running but love cycling.
HATE cycling on the roads cos it's scary as (and I don't even live in a city - quite the opposite tbh) but go early morning when it's quiet and again GET THE ENDORPHINS and it's amazeballs.

TRY something outside - apart from anything else it's CHEAPER and much less dull than sitting on a machine wishing you were somewhere else...

Good luck
(usual HQ disclaimers apply, obvs)

I like the gym. I like to swim. I feel good when I've done it BUT I'm always relieved once it's over! And there are many occasions when I wish I'd got a good reason not to go. Totally understand.

Another vote against gym & for almost anything else.

I enjoy swimming, pilates, zumba...just not as much as I enjoy sitting on my arse and eating cake.

You better start putting that exercise into practise as you are going to have some MN'ers running after you with pitchforks for using the word amazeballs Grin.

But I can outrun a pitchfork-wealding MNer any day of the week
Cos I'm on my bike.

Yeah - I can never quite grasp gyms. The germs; the sweat; other people in sportswear in far too close proximity ... Changing rooms.Shock

It's not natural.

But I loved my bike when I had one. And gardening all day - heavy lifting, stretching, bending. And yoga on a mat beside the sofa. Or a twelve mile stroll along the coast.

I hate exercise, always have done. Hate getting sweaty and never feel 'full of energy' afterwards - just tired and annoyed. I go to a sports class and a fitness class once a week, but only because I like the sport and I need to do the fitness to be able to do the sport well. But secretly hate it.

I like walking but only with lots of stops to take photos. And dance classes because that's about having fun not getting sweaty.

I hate it, but not because of the activities involved in keeping fit, indoor or out..

I just feel really, really embarrassed when I go. Utterly self concious and like people are judging me, like i'm not doing it right Blush

I have enjoyed it at home, on my own but when people see me I just cringe at the thought Blush

I run outside and canoe-great exercise and I hate the gym, too.

Report
unexpectedplaces · 17/05/2015 13:37

I make myself go but always feel better afterwards. It's the getting there that is the problem.

Gym ok in the winter.

You see, I feel completely different about people seeing me-I feel quite smug and pleased that I'm doing something positive for my health!

Yanbu
I've never been in a gym in my life
I hate swimming
I don't ever run for the bus
I used to bunk off games at school and never made it on any school teams
I do walk as I don't drive
But the thought of doing exercise just for the sake of it leaves me cold

Well I've seen threads like these before and they usually get taken over by people who do 10 mile runs before breakfast.

I am 57 and I have loathed all forms of exercise all my life. I could blame school hockey lessons but in truth they probably didn't make a difference.
I can't run for toffee. Despise swimming unless abroad in warm sea. I can tolerate walking but only in fair weather.
I've tried group classes hate them with a passion. I can manage the odd game of badminton but frankly I am so useless that any kind of raquet game is no fun for me or the opponent.
Endorphins? Post exercise high? Never noticed it enough to make me want to do it again.
And gardening all day - heavy lifting, stretching, bending. Well yes I do this but apparently it doesn't count (I read somewhere).

I've never been overweight so no motivation from there. I do however have asthma and increasingly arthritis so I have been forcing myself to go to the gym. It's the only thing I have ever kept up for more than a week long. I don't love it and don't push myself very hard but at least I keep going. Couldn't do it without a rousing playlist to listen to.

I hate it, but it's so good for me, I keep doing it.

If I don't, I get a sore hip, I get sore knees and I feel yuck.

I agree with Olivia, outside is best, cycling is great, the fresh air really does make you feel good.

Thing is, I've tried the whole 'I'm not going to bother with the gym; I'll walk EVERYWHERE!' thing.

Result was shooting from 9'10 to 11'10 Blush I've lost a stone.

I am just naturally lazy!

Are you me?

I go to the gym because I have to be fitter than I am for my health. I go regularly, but I can't wait for the time to pass so I can come home again, and I don't get the high.

I hate even the thought of classes or a team sport, because I'd be so crap.

I agree being out in the open is better, but er I can't run/cycle, and walking as my form of exercise takes the pleasure out of it, plus I'm not wanting to go out in the cold/wet which could potentially be year-round tbh.

I don't mind swimming, although it can be a bit monotonous, but it kills my hair.
