To hate it when a cashier puts the receipt/notes into your hand before the coins?

Whats the point of that? You then have coins sliding around on top of a piece of paper in your hand, which makes it take longer to put it away in your purse, whilst the cashier sits there impatiently waiting for you to leave.

I have worked a till before and I always gave the customer the coins first. Nobody ever seemed unhappy with this, in fact one woman thanked me for not shoving the coins on top of her notes.

Its very rare (at least where I live) for a cashier to give the coins first. Are they being trained to give the notes/receipt first?

I've never been annoyed at how I'm given change. It's not something I've given any thought to, tbh.

It looks neater and maybe it's easier for them to see how much change they've given out, but yes it's more fiddly to have to pull the notes and receipt out from under the coins

Drives me mad too. Happens all the time here. I prefer to use a card as much as possible for this reason.

I prefer the notes first. Drop coins into zip pocket on purse then put notes/receipt away.

Notes and receipt first so the coins are then just tipped into my purse and then my hand is free to fold the notes/ receipt and then put it away.

Drives me nuts. I was told it was done as a result of hygiene training. Baffled how the risk of inadvertently touching someone's hand outweighs the germ count on money though...

The only time I've thought about having back the money is when Chinese servers hand the cash over in both hands as a sign of respect. It is lovely.

I always hand over the coins first because my mam used to complain that she found it difficult to put her change away if she got the notes first.

However I totally understand why people in shops do it. It's not very nice when you hand over coins and the customer has a sweaty hand.

With the speed at which my local supermarket operators have to work, I count myself lucky to get even the correct change, let alone in any particular order. It's not something I've ever cared about.

If you expect to put the notes away first, you will want them last. If you expect to put the coins away first, you will want them last.

1. All cashiers to please stop doing this
   
2. All restaurant staff to stop asking "everything okay with your food?" Just as I have shovelled food into my gob

How do you put a note into your purse when your hand is full of coins? I don't get it. I'm the other way round, let the coins slip into the purse and then fold the note and put that in purse after.

All the cashiers here do it (Australia). All of them. Hate it. Especially as our notes are plasticky and the coins sort of bounce off the top.

That doesn't annoy me, but it does when they put the receipt in the bag, I keep having to pull it out if it's for an item of clothing that may need to be changed!

I used to like it in the olden days when the cashier used to count back the change based upon the purchase you just made. So you'd given them £20 for a £13.99 purchase and they'd give you back your change gracefully:

"So that's 1p makes it £14, £1 is £15 and £5 is £20, Madam"

Now it's give it all back in one go, because it says £6.91 change on the till display, so they just pick that from the till, rather than having to check the arithmetic themselves.

I know it's quicker, but I like good old fashioned customer service not the conveyor belt feeling of get 'em out the door as quickly as possible.

I've not been trained to hand change back in any order. I know that I get it out of the till in order of highest to lowest, so I will have the notes in my hand first. In fact, I often give people notes and coins separately, because I'll have the notes and receipt in my left hand and coins in my right.
