To dislike it when people do this?

I seem to regularly get collared by friends or acquaintances that talk at me constantly for 10 minutes about themselves with me not about to get a word in edgeways, THEN suddenly tell me how terribly busy they are and can't stand around talking all day!

It does my head in!

I see what you mean but sometimes if I am in a rush and someone sees me and comes up to say hello, I am genuinely pleased to see them and want to be polite but need to get on so I tend to answer their questions without asking much more and prolonging the encounter so that I can be on my way. I often say I'll text them and that we should meet up at another time instead though.

Even more annoying, when someone rings you, chats for a few minutes and then declares themselves too busy and 'has to go'.

Why'd you ring then? I mean, you rang me, why make me feel like I'm keeping you from something?

Some people just love talking about themselves, but have no interest in what's going on in anyone else's life. It's annoying and YANBU.

Urgh yes the phone thing is VERY irritating too!

I couldn't type much detail earlier as I was on my phone, but basically this morning after the school run when I was walking to my car to then go on to work, I was stopped by another mum, who talked incessantly at me for 10+ minutes about herself. I couldn't get a word in edgeways.

When I finally did manage to speak, and said I had better go as I needed to get to work she said "oh, just quickly one more thing" and talked at me again. Then suddenly said "can't stand round chatting all day, I've got to go, I've got a busy day today", as if I was the one keeping her from going!

I know people who do this too. It pisses me off.

Ah yes this happens alot but you have to realise they must do it to everyone else too not just you - therefore its part of their character - let them crack on and you be you...I'm sure you will be the one who has genuine friends and people who trust and listen to you as you're there to listen to them.
I've had so may have blithered on but you know what I mean

A close family member does this to me. I know it's just the way they are but it drives my partner potty. It's irritating, but it only happens on the phone - I've taken to asking for the 'short version' if it's non-serious, and message anything I want to say (at least that way they have to listen ). Of course, when we meet up, we can have proper chats, seems phone is easier to just rant on before realise you don't have unlimited mins!
