What percentage of kids get level 6 in KS2 SATS?

How common is it to score level 6 in SATs? Do many kids manage this or just a few?

Maths is way more common than English

I don't think many. Not sure of exact figures. In dds class there is dd and 2 others in a class of 25, that are expected a 6. Most of her class is between 3 & 5.

not many in my experience - I know in our school they have only done the higher paper for the last couple of years, only with the few they are very sure of. And this is in a very good school with low FSM and 30% going on to grammar schools.

I think it depends on the year group. I know previous y6's haven't come close at our school but y5 dc is already level 6 across the board as are a large number of their peers.

I think there were baout 3 got level 6 maths in my ds's class last year.

So it's not just one grade/level they get but different levels in different subjects? Do they average it out to a final grade? Sorry, completely dense about SATs and trying to understand a comment I heard earlier.

the level 6 is an extension paper, only those who they are pretty sure will get level 6 should be entered, they also have to sit the level 3-5 paper and must get level 5 in that, to be awarded the level 6. eg if they pass the level 6 paper, but only get a level 4 in the other paper, then their result is a 4 not a 6. I think that's still the case anyway!

It's nice that she's proud of her child though, for getting the highest mark the school had ever had.

Unless she's always banging on about it? That would be a different matter.

My DS has just informed me that 17 out of 120 kids at his Primary got a level 6 in maths last year, and only 2 got it in English.

He was entered for both himself, but only got the maths too.

yes, she appears to be. Lots of talk about scholarships and justifications for why her daughter didn't get into any selective schools (not that any were needed!).

In my DS's school year 8 of a class of 30 got one level 6. It was an unusual class and not normal at all. Affluent area with very bright kids. I've heard it's usually one child in each class.

Ignore her. As far as I'm aware the parents only get told the level not the paper mark.

Every year group is different and every child in that year group is different. But yes more than one subject is tested and maths is the easiest one to get a l6 in

Not sure it's that high. I'll have a Google in a bit and try and find it. In DS current year 6 he informs me out of 58 in year 5 did level 6 reading paper, 7 are doing spat and 14 are doing the maths. DS is doing the maths level 6 but is only expected to get a level 4 in reading (with scribe) and a 3 in slag as he cannot spell!

Level 6 is very very bright but not necessarily genius. My DS was level 6 in year 6. He turned 12 at Xmas and writes like a 15 or 16 year old now. He's definitely not a child prodigy or genius. Just a well read bookworm who was schooled with a handful of clever friends.
