To remind people about Wales' existence

Just listening to any questions, and again all I've heard is Scotland, England, Scotland, England. Not one mention of Wales. I know the main focus is the Scotland/UK question, but Wales IS actually part of the UK!!!!! Unless I've missed something.

The whole election campaign has been the same, save for the odd patronising mention of Leanne Wood (normally in voxpops where the 'welsh' reveal they don't know who she is) and the constant mispronunciation of Plaid Cymru.

"Plyed cuhm-ree" is my attempt to say it. Am I close? I worry that I sound like I'm putting on a comedy Welsh accent. Perhaps it's less offensive to say it wrong in that case?

Anyway, as someone from Surrey I can promise you I'm well aware Wales exists. You're not getting all the news coverage because you're not all voting for PC and no one thinks Wales is about to leave the UK.

YANBU.

England is generally used synonymously with UK. You barely ever hear about the other countries in the Union unless the media perceives they are a threat to England.

Virtually no mention was made of Wales when the parties were flinging promises around to keep Scotland part of the UK. All the talk was of only allowing English MPs to vote on English issues etc.

But the Welsh only have an Assembly with significantly less power than the Scottish Parliament. English law applies in Wales. So how and where the Welsh would be heard seems to be forgotten.

Also every single person I know who is Welsh is fiercely proud of being from there, so meh they and you will always be offended when Wales is not the main focus.

I do not think we who live in Wales want it to the 'main focus', just some acknowledgement that it exists might be nice.
oh and to the person who doesnt know much about the UK, Wales also has at least six universities which contribute to the economy in their way.

Are you requiring proof that we have met some kind of criteria to stay in the union? Would that be the Union that England is the boss of?

In which case maybe we could set up some kind of bouncer at the Severn Bridge toll booths. We have to bring proof of our contribution towards GDP before we are allowed over to Bristol!

And sorry ahbollocks forgot about the whole 'low profile' thing. It has its benefits I spose!

OP, the constant mispronunciation of Plaid Cymru really irritates me too. It's not even as if it's hard - we're not asking people to say Rhosllanerchrugog.

For anyone interested - the "Cym" is pronounced as in "come" not "coom".

These are people who would make absolutely certain that they pronounced a French or German word correctly.

The refusal to make the effort to pronounce Welsh words properly is some kind of ingrained anti Welsh arrogance.

Matthew Wright always says Plaid Coomri. I yell at the screen every time. You'd think he'd have got it right by now - he claims to love it and spends a lot of time there. Gah!

In fairness, Duncan - some Welsh words can be a bit tricky. But agree others that are in regular use, like Plaid Cymru, are not difficult to learn.
