AIBU?

To vote Tory to stop UKIP?

My constituency is a marginal. Current polls show 36% Tory, 33% UKIP, 18% Labour 10% LD, with a +/- 3% margin of error.

My personal preference would be Labour, but if I vote for them UKIP might take the seat.

Even though I hate the very idea of voting Tory, AIBU to vote for them anyway just to keep UKIP out?

(Really really detest, abhor and loathe UKIP)

Is that based on the last election? I'd go Labour. Better chance this time. No way would I vote tory!

Sirzy · 03/05/2015 21:20

I would.

I am an undecided voter and up until our UKIP candidate was suspended stopping UKIP would have influenced my vote.

Charis1 · 03/05/2015 21:21

YANBU

In the end it comes down to your conscience, although personally I'd go to great lengths to keep UKIP out.

manicinsomniac · 03/05/2015 21:22

If you're in South Thanet YANBU.

I really don't think UKIP have a chance in hell of actually getting a seat anywhere else do they??

pressone · 03/05/2015 21:25

No that's based on this years polls.

2010 election results:
Con 49.5%
Lab 10.8%
LD 30.3%
UKIP 4.6%
Grn 1.2%
Oth 3.6%

Yanbu. I never thought I'd see the day when I would consider voting Tory but if my constituency was yours I wouldn't hesitate. I've already said if ours was like yours I'd do it. Ukip are too unpleasant to be given any sort of power.

VacantExpression · 03/05/2015 21:28

I would, definitely.

Miltonmaid · 03/05/2015 21:28

I'd vote Labour. UKIP are going to be supporting the Conservatives anyway in the event of a Tory minority government. I'd want my vote registered as Labour in case it comes down to which party has the largest share of the vote rather than seats.

TheTravellingLemon · 03/05/2015 21:28

I would definitely let that influence my vote. I am dreading waking up on Friday to find that these people have even an ounce of influence.

Jacobsmum1972 · 03/05/2015 21:29

Yabvu

I would not, if Conservatives get in and do a coalition you will feel just as bad. Vote for who you beleive in.

Also if you vote conservative (in your seat) you could get a tory majority. If ukip win the seat they will have no power.

But vote for who you believe in and support, I am voting Tusc dispite a very small chance of them winning however I am voting because Tusc is what I believe in.

littleflick · 03/05/2015 21:29

Tories most likely to form a coalition with UKIP. important to keep them out too!

Jacobsmum1972 · 03/05/2015 21:31

To be honest their is not far apart from many tory candidates and ukip anyway. Least we forget Mark Reckless and Douglas Carswell.

littleflick · 03/05/2015 21:34

Very true.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 03/05/2015 21:36

Oh that's tough! I can see your logic but you'll feel grubby if the Tories go into coalition with the kippers or if they keep Labour out.
I am in a madly Tory enclave so I'm voting with my heart so it goes to the overall vote share.

MuttonCadet · 03/05/2015 21:36

I would, and will.

littleflick · 03/05/2015 21:41

Voting Tory isn't going to stop UK. It's just increasing risk of the disgraceful Tories getting into power, with the UKIP crazies by their side.

ThisFenceIsComfy · 03/05/2015 21:41

I don't think UKIP will gain enough seats to help the Conservatives so I'd probably just go for Labour and hope for the best.

Viviennemary · 03/05/2015 21:41

There is no chance the Tories will have a coalition with UKIP IMHO. It wouldn't be worth it. UKIP will have too few MP's so it would make hardly any difference and there will be a great hue and cry. Not sure what I'd do in your position. Depends how strongly I felt about things.

littleflick · 03/05/2015 21:41

I mean stop UKIP.

Where can I find my constituency's current polling, please? I can only find results from last election. Thanks

happybubblebrain · 03/05/2015 21:54

I wouldn't want to live where you live OP with all those Tory and UKIP voters. Vote Labour, then move somewhere nicer.

I'm in South Thanet and I'm in kind of the same situation. I voted labour as UKIP and the tories are two sides of the same coin.
