chocolate in the fridge why?

Dh put some boxes of 'egg n spoon' choc eggs in the fridge because his mum gave them to him and she kept them in the fridge. I pointed out they are not real eggs said they don't need to be in there. Put them on the side. We have a family of 5 and a small fridge. Space is at a premium. But he was a bit huffy I suppose it could be seen as an implied criticism of his mum...? I just don't get why chocolate needs to be in the fridge. I don't mind if someone does it but I like my choc at room temperature. No offense meant to chilled choc eatersWinkSmile

Real eggs should be room temp for use as well but they can be stored in a fridge.

You may not get a lot of replys because it was done a few days ago.

To me it depends on the chocolate

I can't see how anyone wouldn't keep chocolate in the fridge!!

Fanfeckintastic · 27/04/2015 19:34

I could never eat room temp chocolate!! I had to put all our Easter eggs in the fridge and wait, it was excruciating!

resipsa · 27/04/2015 19:36

DH is Australian. Everything goes in the fridge (even though he's been here since 98).

ClartyYakker · 27/04/2015 19:36

Even proper eggs don't need to be in the fridge!

Although I do prefer my chocolate fridged Grin

dementedpixie · 27/04/2015 19:38

chocolate should be room temperature. It doesn't taste as nice or melt in the same way if it has been in the fridge

HolgerDanske · 27/04/2015 19:43

I meant to answer the other thread but I never did.

If I have good quality dark chocolate (my usual choice) I have it at room temperature. If I have cheap chocolate I usually also have it at room temp but sometimes I fancy it chilled. Can't quite explain why, but it has something to do with the altered taste and texture and specifically about the sense of it melting in my mouth from the colder state.

laughingcow13 · 27/04/2015 19:48

It wrecks chocolate putting it in the fridge according to the good folk at 'York Chocoalte Story', and those guys should know.

Treeceratops · 27/04/2015 19:55

I think it's what it does to the texture. And thank you for reminding me about the bar I have in our fridge Smile

SueBigFatSue · 27/04/2015 20:00

Room temp choc is sickly to me! I can only enjoy cold choc properly Confused

nocoolnamesleft · 27/04/2015 20:15

Generally it should be room temp. But sometimes the fridge is valuable during a heat wave: there are few things sadder than discovering that your secret HC stash has melted.

HolgerDanske · 27/04/2015 22:28

Oh I meant to say cheap milk chocolate. Once in a while I just fancy it chilled Smile

RachelWatts · 27/04/2015 22:42

I prefer the taste and texture of chilled chocolate. Room temperature chocolate is too soft and melts too quickly.

Mehitabel6 · 27/04/2015 22:49

All chocolate tastes so much nicer from the fridge.

frankie001 · 28/04/2015 00:16

Chiller chocolate for me. Can't eat it unless its been in the fridge.

myusernameisusername · 28/04/2015 02:10

those eggs are supposed to have a soft centre won't it go hard in the fridge ? Confused normal bar of chocolate goes in the fridge i love the cold crunch Grin normal room temp chocolate tastes too sweet and hurts my sensitive teeth Hmm im weird i know

Spermysextowel · 28/04/2015 02:22

Lindt d'Or always tastes like it's been in the fridge. Always. That's part of its appeal.

On the other hand the Ambassador's faves are over warm & a little mushy.

Mermaidhair · 28/04/2015 02:28

I'm an Aussie to, and yes we put a lot of things in the fridge. If you dh wanted his chocolate in the fridge, isn't he allowed to? If you want your room temperature that's fine.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 28/04/2015 11:02

Well the choc was for the children and they like choc, from the fridge, the cupboard, hell even the frezzer or the oven as long as it is chocolate and they can eat it - does storage matter when it doesn't touch the sides on the way down!?!! Grin

frezzer - err I mean freezer of course.

DP always puts chocolate in the fridge, it baffles me Confused

Then he puts peanut butter in there and it makes me Angry because it makes it difficult to spread. Ditto Nutella

Now he's started putting ketchup in there aswell.

Think i need to start having words to be honest

letscookbreakfast · 28/04/2015 11:16

I prefer cold chocolate, even Nutella (I eat it by the spoonfull), Jaffa Cakes are so nice when they are cold.

MrsGrimes · 28/04/2015 11:24

YANBU.

The salad/veg compartment bit at the bottom of the fridge was filled with chocolate when I was a child. You could actually snap a Mars bar in half. Bloody madness. Salad was some unheard of concept in my parents house.

On the rare occasions we have chocolate in our house now it stays in the cupboard for five minutes before going in my gob and the salad/veg compartment is for, well, salad and veg.
