Even if she does get elected U.S President. What do we reckon?

OP posts:
DamnBamboo · 21/04/2015 12:53

I don't have a clue what this means, and would really like to know

HumphreyCobbler · 21/04/2015 12:54

I don't understand.
I would love it were she to be elected.

MyArksNotReady · 21/04/2015 12:55

It would be nice to have a Lady instead of a Man. No doubt it will me more of the same as it was with Mrs T here.

MaidOfStars · 21/04/2015 12:55

I don't know what you mean. You think she'll be ineffective as a President, if she makes it that far?

jeee · 21/04/2015 13:00

Really can't see why 'it would be nice to have a Lady instead of a Man'. But I sincerely hope that H. Clinton becomes President, as she is an experienced politician who seems extremely capable.

VikingVolva · 21/04/2015 13:03

It would be third term in a row for one US party. That's pretty rare isn't it?

I think she would make a very competent president.

But am not sure what the USA would make of a Clinton v Bush presidential race again. It surely wasn't mapeant to be so nepotistic that it almost looks hereditary.

Are there any rich mavericks in the wings as a plausible independent?

MaidOfStars · 21/04/2015 13:03

I think symbolically, it would be excellent.

MaidOfStars · 21/04/2015 13:06

According to the bookies, Hillary is pretty much evens, followed by Jeb Bush at around 3/1.

I don't think Hillary has much competition within the Democrat party. Jeb might face some young guns though, for the Republican nomination. That Mario Rubio fellow is supposed to be making waves.

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 21/04/2015 13:11

I don't really understand the OP either.

A hiding to nothing is a lot of work that is ultimately pointless, that you don't get anywhere with it, that you can't succeed. if she become president of the usa then how is that a hiding to nothing Confused

And even if she doesn't get it, I don't think that's a foregone conclusion surely, that it's pointless for her to try?

SlightlyJadedJack · 21/04/2015 13:12

I'd love Hilary to get in.

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 21/04/2015 13:12

I would like to see a woman in the white house as well TBH. As president I mean not as wife of persident obv!

DrDre · 21/04/2015 13:13

In my opinion, it is about time there was a female President. All the potential republican candidates are men. I hope she wins (and I don't like the Republicans!).
However, it would be the third consecutive term the Democrats were in office if she won. The nation may want a change of party at the top, which might reduce her chances.

sourdrawers · 21/04/2015 13:13

Yes MaidOfStars that is exactly what I mean. I hope I'm proved wrong.

I was daft enough to get all excited about Obama in 2008. The glass ceiling broken by the first ever black President and all that. How historic and epoch making it all was .. Look at what an arse he turned out to be?

OP posts:
DamnBamboo · 21/04/2015 13:14

Look at what an arse he turned out to be?

What? Why? You think the alternative would've been better?

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 21/04/2015 13:19

Obama hasn't been an "arse" has he???

The healthcare reforms were a massive thing to get through.

I think he's generally a good egg isn't he? Admittedly I don't follow their politics that closely, know that he about faced on guantanamo etc, but still, better then the alternative right, by some wide margin.

MarvellousMarbles · 21/04/2015 13:20

I'm looking forward to the point when a black man, or a woman, or even a black woman can be elected US President without being judged as a standard bearer.

So they can be just as devious, back-biting, ineffective, and disappointing as every other US President without being deemed to have somehow let down the cause of All Black People, or All Women.

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 21/04/2015 13:21

Just was trying to write what MarvellousMarbles wrote, she did it much better Grin

SlightlyJadedJack · 21/04/2015 13:23

I don't think Obama is an arse either! Bloody hell, the U.S. has had some corners but I wouldn't have put OB in that pile.

SlightlyJadedJack · 21/04/2015 13:23

Corkers not corners. Bloody autocorrect.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 21/04/2015 13:25

She'd find doing anything as a POTUS difficult because the Senate, Congress and the Supreme Court are all likely to be Republican. So in that way she's probably on a hiding to nothing. Not to mention there's a section of Republican party (and media) who viscerally hate her.

honeyroar · 21/04/2015 13:27

Apart from the female aspect, I'd like to see her make it because she has worked hard towards it for years. Last time round I thought it was a bit of a gimmick, but she's worked well and deserves it IMO.

sourdrawers Barack Obama being black and Barack Obama being an arse (not a position I take) are two different things.

Obama's election was still historic in a social context. His performance as President (good or bad) doesn't change that.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 21/04/2015 13:54

is that Bush meaning Jed Bush? I don't think he has the charisma to pull it off, frankly. And didn't he just have a scandal recently? (trying to remember)

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 21/04/2015 13:55

Jed or Jeb or whatever his name is. Confused
