AIBU?

To be surprised at how my body has reacted to removing mirena?

Posting here partly for traffic.

Had the mirena coil removed on Friday after about 2.5 years. Have had "chaotic bleeding" for about three months so GP recommended as first stage of working out what's happening. Also ordered a battery of blood tests.

I'm currently in quite a lot of pain and bleeding very heavily - think super plus tampon and night time pad (worn together) every two hours. Despite that, I've still flooded twice today and am now on my third pair of trousers Blush. Rather nervous about leaving the house tomorrow.

I'm also very, very bloated and uncomfortable.

Is this normal?

Poor you. I never had a coil, but that doesn't sound right at all.

Heavy bleeding like you described can not be normal from removing a coil. I would call the NHS and ask their advice. I wouldn't leave this overnight, bleeding through a pad and tampon every two hours...Shock

Please get yourself checked out soon. Hope you feel better.Flowers

Thanks. Out of hours seems a bit extreme at the moment, but might be tempted to call GP in the morning. Will work from home tomorrow I think.

Dr Google suggests such a range of possibilities following removal that it's no help at all! I was hoping for some other first hand experiences - good or bad.

I went to OOH when I got my first period following the birth of my DS. I was bleeding very heavily and was due back to work for the first time after 6 months mat leave.

Doctor was lovely, prescribed some transamic acid to lessen the flow, and advised taking it slowly when going from sitting to standing etc, as what I was experiencing was classed as 'significant blood loss'.

I know that your case is different, but you should defiantly see the
OOH doctor as the actual blood loss sounds similar to mine. Hope you get things sorted.

Not sure. I didn't bleed for about 3 weeks after I removed mine. is it your usual time of month? The amount of bleeding doesn't sound terrible for a heavy period.

Yes i was the same ...spotting for 24 hkurs then 3 days of very very heavy bleeding. Had to leave work as flooded trousers ! Awful. But by day 4 it was back to normal heavy period flow and by day 6/7 dissapearing. So it should hopefully reduce soon. I had cramping and backache too. Also about a week after bleeding stopped i wad quite weepy and spotty!

So I'm not totally abnormal the Smile

It's eased off a bit in the last hour so I'm going to go to bed and hope! Fortunately, I have a mattress protector left over from when DS crept in to our bed and was still wetting!

I'm at the hospital for blood tests in the morning so I'll push to talk to someone if it's the same.

Thanks whatswrong

Much better now. Bleeding back to what I would call normal heavy. Feeling very drained and tired though - think I need to go and eat spinnach!
